It's hard to believe how far we have come on our Pixie Medallion quilt along. This month we sewed the first two flying geese borders. It is A LOT of flying geese, whew! We divided this border into two months because it really is a lot of sewing...and it's a good thing because I barely squeaked by getting my pink and orange ones done in February.

Happy February! We are nearing the end of the Pixie Medallion quilt along, just one more month to go. But first, I'm sharing my progress for our January goal. We worked on the shoo-fly blocks for border two, and I couldn't be happier with how it's looking! (it's getting too big to photograph well (-: )
I decided to go with the white background so these blocks would have a nice contrast to the yellow in the snowball border. I like how clean the white looks with the bright prints, and also how it ties into the white strips around...
The middle of January already! Who is working on their Pixie Medallion quilt? This month in our quilt along, we have the second border, the shoo-fly blocks. If are just getting started, you'll find some helpful hints for speeding up the piecing on these cuties, Here.

So, I have to say that these little blocks make me pretty happy. They are so simple, yet their little size and basic shapes make them really satisfying to sew. I had fun...
Here we are two months in on the Pixie Medallion Quilt Along. If you are just joining or interested in the Quilt Along, you'll find the first post with information and schedule, Here. The pattern is available Here.
I have just finished my first border, the snowball blocks. These cute little blocks come together pretty fast with strip piecing. My favorite part of this border was picking out all the pretty pink and blue prints in my stash. I love the look of using a limited color palette, but a large variety of fabrics within those colors.
As you can see,...
Are you working on your Pixie Star for the Great Pixie Quilt Along? We are almost finished with our first step! To catch up on past posts and read quilt along details, Click Here.
I decided to do some different things for my new Pixie Medallion...I wanted a different look from the original quilt and to use some of my favorite fabrics from my stash. My initial inspiration was the fabric collection Avante Garde by Katarina Roccella for Art Gallery Fabrics. I've been saving my little stash of it for the perfect project. I am also adding coordinating colors and...
October is flying by and we are ready to sew the half-square triangle borders for our Pixie Medallion star. Feathered star is one of my favorite classic quilt designs, but the traditional block can be tricky to sew, with set-in (Y) seams and partial seams. The Pixie Medallion is so much simpler! Just straight sewing, so here we go.
I know that some people like to do half-square triangles different ways. If you cut and sew them according the pattern instructions (like I do), there is no trimming required. Your little units, before they are sewn together, should measure 2...
We are gearing up the The Great Pixie Quilt Along. I am hosting this fun event with Wendy at The Next Stitch and I do hope we have lots of sewists join and sew along. It will be fun to see all the different looks this fun pattern can have. Since we are close to our start date (October 1!), I am posting here with our schedule and things you should know.
First, you CAN make this quilt! all the piecing is straightforward, with basic shapes like half square triangles, strips and squares. You will recognize some of your favorite...
Who wants to sew along with me? The kids are back in school, summer vacations are over, and we are looking at new projects to sew, right? I am going to be working on a few quilts for Quilt Market in October, but I also want to do something just for fun. I am planning to join @thenextstitch, an Australian shop who is starting a quilt along with my Pixie Medallion Quilt soon. I want to make a new version for myself and support you as you make one along with me.
My birthday is in October, and the best gift...
