The double wedding ring quilt is arguably the most recognizable traditional quilt design. It's also one that many quilters aspire to sew. The Polka Dot Bikini quilt has that classic patchwork ring look, but with an exciting modern look. The new and improved pattern is now available for those who want to try this design, but are turned off by the tricky bias arcs, multiple templates and complex piecing of the traditional pattern. Here are some previously sewn Bikini quilts to give you some ideas for your own version of this perennial favorite.
I love this version made by my...
Twice a year, Amy's Creative Side sponsors a fun, virtual quilt "show" for bloggers. I haven't entered the show in a while, so I thought this year I would add my latest Polka Dot Bikini quilt.
This is a smaller version than the original pattern, and I made it just this last summer as part of the Kona Solids tour with Stash Fabrics. Even though it is my third version of the Bikini quilt, I have to say I had a blast making it and really love how it turned out! This quilt is also pretty special to me because...
Welcome to my stop on the Stash Fabrics Kona cottons quilt blog tour! Beth at Stash organized a group of quilters to pick out their favorite bundle of colors from her stock of Kona solids, then let us dream up a sewing project with them. Beth carries the entire collection of Kona solids, over 300 different colors!
It seemed like a no-brainer to make my pretty bundle into a Polka Dot Bikini quilt, and with that in mind, I chose a variety of bright colors, including at least one light and one dark of each. Of course, once I got...

I mentioned last week that I am using my Kona solids bundle from Stash Fabrics to make a small version of my Polka Dot Bikini Quilt. This project has pretty much taken all my sewing time this week, and I am really loving how it is coming along. I initially planned to make it with only the solid fabrics, but just couldn't do it! I had to add some bright prints...and of course the polka dots made sense. I am trying to create a good mix and balance between the dot fabrics and the solids, but keep the overall...
I know. If you have been following my blog, you have seen the Polka Dot Bikini quilt more than you want to. Here is one more post for my entry into the Bloggers' Quilt Festival at Amy's Creative Side. This is one of my favorite quilts, and definitely my best selling pattern to date (you can buy the pattern in my shop or on Craftsy, and a kit of fabrics is available from Canton Village Quilt Works).
I think my favorite part of this quilt as a finished product is the bright saturated colors. You won't find a speck of white...
I did it! I finally finished my second Polka Dot Bikini Quilt.
I started this quilt back in January to work along with the Bikini Quilt-along I hosted here on the blog. It has been one I worked on off-and-on since then, often getting set aside for other projects. This month I have been making a big effort to finish up some works-in-progress and this quilt was top of my list. It's funny, as I was making this it seemed like such a big project: lots of piecing (curves take extra time) and lots of quilting (for me, anyway). Then...
Welcome to the last check in day of the Polka Dot Bikini Quilt-Along! Of course, I am so happy to finally show you my finished top. I show you some little peeks along the way, but wanted the final design to be surprise. What do you think?
My wonderful sponsor, Canton Village Quilt Works is offering a $25 gift certificate to one reader today. Keep reading for details….
Is anyone else finished with their top? I would love to see what you are creating. Be sure and use #bikiniquilt on instagram or add to the Color Girl Quilts flickr group.
I have it...
Happy Thursday! hard to believe it has been two weeks since the last Quilt Along Post, but here we are. Did you start on your border blocks?
If you are just joining, see the QAL page Here. It's not too late to start your own Polka Dot Bikini Quilt.
Our goal for today was to have the four corner blocks done and four of the border blocks.
Here are some of my border blocks:
You can see more of my "process" photos on my Instagram feed, too. I wanted to link to the Instagram #bikiniquilt group, too, but I cannot figure out how...
Good Evening, it is February 20th, and that means it's time to check our progress on the Polka Dot Bikini Quilt Along. Our goal for today is to have 16 of the center blocks done, how did you do?
I have seen some great pictures on Instagram and Flickr…so exciting to see the projects and different ideas for colors.
Tonight's post topic is the border blocks. Our goal for the next link up, March 6th, is to have four border blocks plus the four corner blocks completed.
I got my markers out again to experiment with some ideas for those checker borders....
