Whew! Six months and many hours of planning, fabric loving, and sewing and we have a finished Pixie Medallion Quilt Along! How did you do? I know there are so many things to make and I just finished my last borders in the nick of time, so it's understandable if you aren't. quite. there. yet. But I can't wait to see your progress. (-:
For my final borders, I kept the rainbow color order going but used five different yellow prints for a bit of spice. Each of the four yellow flying geese on each side of the quilt are...
It's hard to believe how far we have come on our Pixie Medallion quilt along. This month we sewed the first two flying geese borders. It is A LOT of flying geese, whew! We divided this border into two months because it really is a lot of sewing...and it's a good thing because I barely squeaked by getting my pink and orange ones done in February.

Happy February! We are nearing the end of the Pixie Medallion quilt along, just one more month to go. But first, I'm sharing my progress for our January goal. We worked on the shoo-fly blocks for border two, and I couldn't be happier with how it's looking! (it's getting too big to photograph well (-: )
I decided to go with the white background so these blocks would have a nice contrast to the yellow in the snowball border. I like how clean the white looks with the bright prints, and also how it ties into the white strips around...
The middle of January already! Who is working on their Pixie Medallion quilt? This month in our quilt along, we have the second border, the shoo-fly blocks. If are just getting started, you'll find some helpful hints for speeding up the piecing on these cuties, Here.

So, I have to say that these little blocks make me pretty happy. They are so simple, yet their little size and basic shapes make them really satisfying to sew. I had fun...

I have just finished my first border, the snowball blocks. These cute little blocks come together pretty fast with strip piecing. My favorite part of this border was picking out all the pretty pink and blue prints in my stash. I love the look of using a limited color palette, but a large variety of fabrics within those colors.
As you can see,...

At this point you have your center star sewn and maybe have your stop borders on too. If you are following the pattern, you will have two narrow borders around the center star. There is some room for adjustment if your center star block doesn't come out exactly the right...

I decided to do some different things for my new Pixie Medallion...I wanted a different look from the original quilt and to use some of my favorite fabrics from my stash. My initial inspiration was the fabric collection Avante Garde by Katarina Roccella for Art Gallery Fabrics. I've been saving my little stash of it for the perfect project. I am also adding coordinating colors and...

I have seen some photos popping up on Instagram that some of you are choosing your fabrics and getting ready. It is so exciting to get us going with fabric and sewing the center medallion star in October. I want to emphasize a few important things before we start cutting:
Read the entire first section of instructions and familiarize yourself with the process we are going through to cut and sew the star pieces and half-square...
We are gearing up the The Great Pixie Quilt Along. I am hosting this fun event with Wendy at The Next Stitch and I do hope we have lots of sewists join and sew along. It will be fun to see all the different looks this fun pattern can have. Since we are close to our start date (October 1!), I am posting here with our schedule and things you should know.
First, you CAN make this quilt! all the piecing is straightforward, with basic shapes like half square triangles, strips and squares. You will recognize some of your favorite...
So happy to introduce you officially to my newest, proudest quilt pattern. This is the Pixie Medallion! I have enjoyed making several medallion quilts in the last few years so I decided it was time to design and make my own based on what I learned and like best about past experiences. Get the pattern Here.
The thing I like best about medallion style quilts is the progression and variety of piecing all within the same quilt. It feels a bit like starting and finishing a bunch of small projects as you move through each border. It is extremely gratifying...
