Happy Sunday! A fun announcement here at Color Girl: a new pattern is now available. This is my modern ring quilt called "Hula Girl". You can find it in my shop or on Craftsy.
The pattern includes very detailed instructions and clear diagrams to get you started on paper piecing if you have never tried it. I also have a couple of tutorials in photos, Here. The quilt shown on the pattern finishes at 44" x 53", so it is perfect for a baby or child, a snuggle or a wallhanging. My current version has only five rings, so it...
So, I finished my little Hula Girl quilt top for the Michael Miller Fabrics challenge for Sewtopia. (Read about how I got started on this Here). Usually fall is my favorite time to take pictures of quilts because the colors outside are so pretty, but our weather has been nothing but wet for two whole weeks! So I am giving you a bit of a peek at this as I was basting it.
I really want to quilt it with spiraling circles from the center of each ring. I love how that looks but never tried it. I think this...
Another day in October and it is another triangle block for the Super Simple Sampler! If you missed the other blocks in this series, you can find all of them Here. These are six inch quilt blocks I have designed and I am publishing the instructions to make four each month, then a sampler quilt next summer with all of them.
from each of the light and dark blue: (1) 3 1/2" square, cut diagonally to yield two half-square triangles of each (HST). I used the leftover triangles from the last block and cut two more so they would...
Popping in with a quick Quilt in Progress show and tell! I have the first row of rings done for my Michael Miller fabrics and Sewtopia Challenge quilt. I am loving the scrappy look so far! If you are just tuning in, this is a second version of my Hula Girl quilt pattern, coming soon to my pattern shop.
The winner of my "low volume fabric" fall giveaway is Charlotte. Her comment was chosen by the random number generator (my 8-year-old son). Charlotte, I hope you enjoy the fabric. It was awesome to read the comments and find out where everyone...
I got a very interesting package in the mail the other day. It was from FabricWorm, but I hadn't ordered anything....Of course, I opened it and was thrilled to find a copy of Elizabeth Hartman's Aviatrix Medallion pattern! I have wanted to make this quilt since last spring when Elizabeth started a quilt-along with it, but just never made the time. So, who was the sweet one who sent me the pattern? My wonderful sister in quilting (and genetics), Emily! Most know her as Em, and she is an original color girl/courageous quilter!
Because this quilt has been on my "to-do" list,...
Today is the day to make the last 6" sampler quilt block for this month. I am pretty happy with how all eight of mine have turned out! Check out the first four, made from Tula Pink's book, "100 Modern Quilt Blocks", Here. The instructions to make the other blocks I designed can be found Here. This month is cross blocks, so we have this cutie to make today.
From the Dark Blue: cut (4) 3" x 3" squares
From the Yellow: cut (4) 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" squares
From the Light Multi print: cut (2) 2" x 1 1/2" rectangles,...

On Sunday, I told you about a new quilters' book club series I am starting. Each month I will make four blocks from Tula Pink's 100 Modern Quilt Blocks book. I will also design four of my own blocks, making eight in all each month and a total of 72 by the end.
Today I have the instructions to make the first block! This month we have cross blocks, but for this one I turned it on its side to make an "x". The block is 6 1/2".
Cutting (for simplicity, I will list fabrics in the same colors as the ones...
It is a new school year, and therefore a new year of Quilters' Book Club.
If you are a new visitor to this blog, you can see all the posts from last year's book club, Here. Last year, I chose my favorite quilting books and spent some time each month revisiting them for sewing inspiration and told you a bit about why I like the book and projects. I chose a project from each book and made one 12" block inspired by that project, then turned them all into a Modern Sampler Quilt (Summer Blockbuster 2014, Here) in July.
