Brand New! Indigo Pattern Now Available

Now that you've fallen for curved piecing with your Classic Curves Ruler, I have a brand new quilt you are going to love! Indigo is the newest design for the CCRuler and I couldn't be happier to show you these beautiful quilts. If you have a pack of 10" squares ("layer cake") you have been saving for the perfect quilt, you have found it! Indigo is ideal for 10" squares to show off those favorite prints, but the classic design would look amazing in any type of fabric. I would love to see one in batiks or 30's reproductions (-: I...

One Last Whisper of Summer

It's almost the first day of Autumn, my favorite time of year, and yet I am sorry to see the summer end. I love the warm weather, the flowers blooming and spending time outdoors (not  a fan of winter at all). I have one more summery fresh quilt to share with you. I showed you the finished top for this Picnic quilt back in July, and now I am so happy to have it all finished up! This is made with  my Picnic quilt pattern using the Classic Curves Ruler. It pieced up really quickly and then I worked on...

All New! Whimsy Garden with Classic Curves

Whew! Life has been a bit crazy around here. The summer was much busier than I expected and I feel kind of behind on my quilty work. Well, the kids are back to school, vacations are in the rearview mirror, I am rested and fired up for some fall sewing! How about you? I want to share the newly revised Whimsy Garden quilt pattern with you today. This has been a favorite in my pattern shop, and now it's better than ever. The entire pattern got a makeover, including added instructions for cutting with the Classic Curves Ruler. No more...

Getting Creative with Pattern and Color

I finished a quilt! If you can believe it, this is made from my Mermaid pattern. When I set out to make this, I wanted to show how a pattern can look totally unique just by changing how you place the colors or value. For this version of the Mermaid quilt pattern, I replaced the navy blue and white solids with prints, making the clamshell shape. The bright colors in the original were replaced with the solids in this version, but instead of making the colorful humps, I made all the humps in a row the same fabric. This gives the...

How to: Cutting with the Classic Curves Ruler

This is the first of some tutorials I want to post to go with the Classic Curves Ruler. This will give you an idea how it works and provide some up-close, photo instructions to accompany your ruler. These instructions are included with the Ruler when you purchase one, too. First up, we have the basics of cutting the two parts of a drunkards' path block. The ruler includes ten grooves for cutting different size blocks. For this example, I am going to cut pieces using the 5" groove. I am going to cut the convex curve pieces (quarter circle shape) with...

How About a Picnic This Summer?

Summer has officially arrived in our house. The kids are out of school, we've been on our bikes and they have gotten out the water balloons. Another exciting arrival: the brand new Picnic quilt pattern! This is the second full pattern available to accompany the Classic Curves Ruler. Picnic introduces a new shape for the CCR, and one of my all time favorites: the orange peel. I don't know why I love this block so much, but I think they are really fun to make and experiment with layouts and additions. I have two other patterns using this shape: Whimsy...

What Shade Are You? A First…

I did it! I actually made a quilt with solids. This is my first time ever doing it and this quilt is my contribution to the What Shade Are You? series by RJR fabrics. Each friday they feature a quilt made with their Cotton Supreme Solids and have a giveaway (more on that in a minute). This quilt was outside my comfort zone in a couple ways. Besides being my first ever without any prints, I had to choose the fabrics ahead and stick with them! RJR sent me a color card with all their solids and I chose which...
