For the Love of Fabric: Handcrafted by Alison Glass

I have said before that I love everything Alison Glass designs, fabric-wise. So I was naturally really excited about her latest and most-talked-about quilting fabric collection called Handcrafted for Andover Fabrics. *the text print above is also by Alison Glass, part of her 2013 collection "Sun Prints"* Handcrafted is a collection of hand-stamped, batik style fabrics in saturated jewel tone colors. When you see these fabrics in person, you are struck by the richness of the color, but also by the simplicity of the prints. My first thought was to pair them with fabrics of texture. Andover also makes a collection...

For the Love of Fabric: “Winged”

For the love of Fabric: that is a huge reason I quilt. There are so many beautiful designs to choose from and one of my favorite parts of the process is deciding what to put to together in my quilts. This involves color, print and texture. The new collection (released over the summer) from Art Gallery Fabrics, Winged, was designed by Bonnie Christine. The first thing that drew me to it was the "prettiness" of the prints with butterflies and flowers, and also the unique way she designed the bird prints. The colors are right up my alley, too,...

For the Love of Fabric: A Secret Crush

This Love Fabric post features a bit of a throw-back: Chicopee by Denyse Schmidt. This collection is some years old, but still available from some shops. I have always really liked it but resisted the temptation to buy it because the colors were so distinctive, the fabrics would really only coordinate within the collection. Well, I found a bundle of the blue/green color way on sale recently and I finally caved to temptation! But that is because I have some ideas for mixing it... Another favorite: Sun Prints by Alison Glass. This was a series of prints released last year...

Aviatrix Medallion Quilt, Fabric

From a Quilting Sister, With Love

I got a very interesting package in the mail the other day. It was from FabricWorm, but I hadn't ordered anything....Of course, I opened it and was thrilled to find a copy of Elizabeth Hartman's Aviatrix Medallion pattern! I have wanted to make this quilt since last spring when Elizabeth started a quilt-along with it, but just never made the time. So, who was the sweet one who sent me the pattern? My wonderful sister in quilting (and genetics), Emily! Most know her as Em, and she is an original color girl/courageous quilter! Because this quilt has been on my "to-do" list,...

For the Love of Fabric: Indelible

I first saw a peek of the "Indelible" collection by Katarina Roccella for Art Gallery Fabrics (Spring 2014) last winter in the run-up to spring market. It was pretty much love at first sight and fabric that I happily waited to buy. I am not disappointed! I would really like to start a project with it soon, so I decided to do some experimenting with mixing it with other fabrics in my stash. One of the things that I look for in an ideal fabric collection: distinct color and value ranges. Although I don't make quilts of only one designer...

For the Love of Fabric: Fox Field by Tula Pink

When I attended Camp Stitchalot last June, I was lucky enough to win a fat quarter bundle of Tula Pink's recent collection, "Fox Field". Funny thing, my mom won one, too! Em used some of Mom's bundle to make this sweet baby quilt. It is based on the pattern by Thimbleblossoms. I decided to feature this collection for my "love fabric" post this week, because it, as well as all of Tula's fabrics, contains such unique prints and real artistry. (Tula was at Camp with us, so I was lucky enough to have her sign my bundle). If you are...

Quilts in Progress: Color, Color, Color!

It is the middle of the week, time to see what we are working on! Starting on the non-quilting front for me: I have become a soccer mom. I spend two nights a week at soccer practice and last weekend was devoted to a tournament. This has been a learning experience, good and bad, for both my son and me. Selfishly, I am sad to miss evening time at home (soccer nights=rush dinner, rush bath, staying up too late), but it is really fun to watch him play and see his bright little pink face come off the field looking...

For the Love of Fabric: Cotton + Steel

If you are a selvedge person, have I got the fabric for you! Most quilters have probably heard plenty about the Cotton + Steel collections, which are a new group of designer collections from RJR fabrics. They had huge hype leading up to Spring Market a few months ago and basically dominated social media during the Market. I am going to be brutally honest: when I first saw the collections, I wasn't too excited. I'm not a novelty print quilter, and most of what I saw were things like horses, arrows, buttons, cats and lions....and then I saw their basics...

For the Love of Fabric: Batik

Jackie at Canton Village Quilts Works is having a sale on her great selection of batik fabrics this weekend! Check out the batik page Here. That got me thinking. Batiks are so unique in quilting, aren't they? it seem that people either love them and use them almost exclusively, or really not at all. I think maybe their potential is under-appreciated in all styles of quilting: Color, Texture, Pattern...Beautiful!     There is no doubt that batiks look great together! I made this bargello quilt about seven years ago. I wanted both the three dimensional look of the bargello design as well as...

For the Love of Fabric: Primary Colors

I have the opportunity to participate in a blog hop that starts on Monday. Each stop will include a tutorial on making quilt-making quicker and/or easier. The whole thing is organized by Amy of Diary of a Quilter, so be sure and stop back on Monday. So, for my tutorial project, I need fabric! Today I started pulling fabric for my project and decided to do it with primary colors. When it comes to choosing a color scheme for your quilt, you can't go wrong with the primary colors: Red, Yellow, and Blue. They look great together as well as with neutrals...
