For the Love of Fabric: “For You”

One of my all time favorite quilting fabric collections is "For You" by designer Brigitte Heitland (Zen Chic) for Moda. These fabrics came out last summer, and I was lucky enough to get a layer cake (10" square precuts) of them right away, which I made a quilt with...I can't wait to show you that later this year...but kind of wished I had some more. Last weekend I managed to snag some pieces on sale while traveling. You see, the colors and prints in this are so "me", I think, and so useful. They are bright without being crazy, just...

For the Love of Fabric: Imprint

I haven't done a lot of fabric shopping lately, but I had to take advantage of some black Friday sales to get some favorites I have been eyeing. The Imprint collection by Katarina Roccella for Art Gallery fabrics is one that is so me! I am always drawn most to the basics in designer collections: geometrics, small scale prints, and florals. This is a Whole Collection of unique basics! What a great addition to a fabric stash palette. Today I am mixing them up with some other bits from my stash (new and old) to see what kind of...

For the Love of Fabric: “Curiosities”

When I first saw the sneak peeks of the Curiosities fabric collection from Art Gallery Fabrics last spring, I knew I would love it. Then, at quilt market in Minneapolis in May, I got to see it in person...Jeni Baker has arguably produced her best fabric collection yet (isn't she one of those that just gets better with each one?) with Curiosities, inspired the little things that make us stop and wonder. I was really lucky to win a giveaway that Art Gallery Fabrics did during Market and got a bundle of the Curiosities prints as my prize! This week I...

For the Love of Fabric: True Colors

It probably comes as no surprise that I have a new favorite fabric range about every other week, and it is also not a big surprise that I am totally in love with the new True Colors fabrics by Tula Pink. Just look at them.  Color Girl, indeed. There are more prints to the range, but I got a little bundle of 12 for the monthly modern fat quarter club at the Fat Quarter Shop. This range is intended as a selection of blenders, I believe all the prints have been released before as parts of Tula Pink's previous collections....

For the Love of Fabric: Happy Home

Earlier this spring, when Art Gallery Fabrics started previewing their new collections for Market in Minneapolis, I knew immediately that I wanted to make a quilt with "Happy Home" by Caroline Hulse (SewCaroline). The colors and prints in this collection are so fresh and bright, and I like the whimsical and hand-drawn look of them: a bit child-like. I was lucky enough to have Art Gallery provide some fabrics for me to make a quilt for a new pattern, and I wanted to share these pretty fabrics as well as some ideas for what you might mix them with from your...

For the Love of Fabric: Flora by Joel Dewberry

"Flora" is designer Joel Dewberry's best collection since Notting Hill a couple of years ago. Flora is his newest release from Free Spirit fabrics, and I was instantly taken with the vivid, pretty colors and the somewhat retro looking prints (loving those tulips!). On closer look, I think it is interesting and a bit unusual because the color ways could really be two distinct collections: the blue/green/salmon prints and the pink, violet, gold prints. I feel like they look good all together, but could easily stand alone (meaning you don't need to buy the whole collection to get a workable...

For the Love of Fabric: Sun Prints 2015

It will be no surprise to anyone familiar with this blog that I waited with great anticipation for the new 2015 Sun Prints from Alison Glass (Andover Fabrics). Alison Glass is among the very best in the fabric design world when it comes to choosing colors: bright and saturated, but also versatile and modern. I have lots of her previous Sun Prints collection in my stash (from 2013) and I find myself using them in all my quilting projects. Since my taste in quilting and patchwork tends to lean toward the scrappy side, my fabric taste is usually pretty basic....

For the Love of Fabric: Doe

Yes, I drank the kool-aid. I now have some Doe fabric by Caroline Friedlander in my stash and even already have big plans for a new quilt with it. If you have been away from quilting social media for a few months, here is the update: Doe has been one of the hottest fabric items and highly anticipated collection among modern quilters of late. As you would expect from Caroline, Doe is a beautiful collection of simple geometric prints in useable colors and scale. Here is what I like about it: it doesn't even need to be a collection! Each...

For the Love of Fabric: Handcrafted by Alison Glass

I have said before that I love everything Alison Glass designs, fabric-wise. So I was naturally really excited about her latest and most-talked-about quilting fabric collection called Handcrafted for Andover Fabrics. *the text print above is also by Alison Glass, part of her 2013 collection "Sun Prints"* Handcrafted is a collection of hand-stamped, batik style fabrics in saturated jewel tone colors. When you see these fabrics in person, you are struck by the richness of the color, but also by the simplicity of the prints. My first thought was to pair them with fabrics of texture. Andover also makes a collection...

For the Love of Fabric: “Winged”

For the love of Fabric: that is a huge reason I quilt. There are so many beautiful designs to choose from and one of my favorite parts of the process is deciding what to put to together in my quilts. This involves color, print and texture. The new collection (released over the summer) from Art Gallery Fabrics, Winged, was designed by Bonnie Christine. The first thing that drew me to it was the "prettiness" of the prints with butterflies and flowers, and also the unique way she designed the bird prints. The colors are right up my alley, too,...
