I cannot believe we are in the last month of the school year and the last month of making our sampler blocks! This month I decided not to choose a theme and just make my favorites of the blocks that I haven't yet made from Tula Pink's City Sampler book, 100 Modern Quilt Blocks.
If you are just joining, I have done a monthly series this year, making four blocks from Tula's book each month (see all the posts, Here) and also providing you readers with instructions to make four blocks that I designed (see all the tutorials, Here). I...
It is time for our April quilters' book club blocks! This month I chose the theme "nine-patch" for my six inch sampler blocks. There is not a specific chapter in the Tula Pink City Sampler book about nine-patches, but I flipped through and found plenty of blocks that use nine-patches in creative ways.
For my four quilt sampler blocks for April, I made blocks 85, 4, 31, and 7 from the City Sampler Book. These came from the chapters on crosses, squares and strips, so you can see that the basic nine-patch can be incorporated into a variety of settings and...
It is March already and time for another four blocks from Tula Pink's City Sampler book. This has been our book club book all year, making four blocks each month. We only have two more months then over the summer I will post instructions to sew all the blocks into a great sampler quilt. (see previous Tula book club posts, Here, and last year's book club, Here)
This month I chose the four-patch as the theme for my blocks. I made blocks #96, 83, 80 and 20 (clockwise from top in photo above).
As I was making these blocks, I was...
February Quilters' Book Club! This makes me very happy because it means we are one month closer to spring! It also means we have four more blocks done for our Quilters' Book Club sampler quilt for this year. Each month I am making four blocks from Tula Pink's City Sampler: 100 Modern Quilt Blocks, plus four that I design myself (see past months Here) with the shape of the month. My fabrics are primarily from the Figures collection designed by Zen Chic for Moda Fabrics (Autumn 2014)
I decided this month to do blocks with Rectangles. There are lots of...
It is time for the January edition of Quilters' Book Club. This month, once again, I made four blocks from my Tula Pink City Sampler book. These are all 6" blocks, and this month I chose the theme, "flying geese". The blocks above are #44 and 42 in the book.
We have had terrible wet weather (like 3" of rain yesterday alone!), so pretty outdoor photos were not possible. Enjoy the backdrop of my cute homemade sewing table, albeit poorer lighting. The blocks above are #54 and 51 in the book.
I have made each of my blocks "my own" by...
It's December, and that means time for the Quilters' Book Club. Once again, I chose four blocks from the "100 Modern Quilt Blocks, Tula Pink's City Sampler" book. This month I decided on the theme of Strips and made blocks 58, 63, 64, and 66. When I laid the four out, I realized how cute they look together when you alternate the direction of the stripes in every other block. It would be fun to make a whole sampler quilt with basic blocks like this.
These blocks are the simplest I have made so far, and I actually worked on...
Happy November! It is time for this month's installment of Quilters' Book Club: Tula Pink's 100 Modern Quilt Blocks. This month our theme is Squares.
Fortunately October here in Ohio shaped up and dried up to be absolutely beautiful. Hoping for an extension of the Indian summer in November. It is so much better to be able to take photos outdoors, and to be outdoors for that matter.
So, on to squares: honestly, I wasn't super enthusiastic about the squares blocks in our book. It was a bit harder for me to decide which four I wanted to make this month,...
Happy October! it has already been a very happy month here...My first week after leaving my day job (I am loving the time to sew and dream of what comes next!), my birthday was extra special because I had out of town family visit whom I hadn't seen in years, and I received my November issue of AQ Magazine (American Quilters' Society) that has a quilt I designed and made featured inside (see it Here).
If you remember from last month, my book club series this year is focused on just one book: Tula Pink's City Sampler: 100 Modern Quilt...
It is a new school year, and therefore a new year of Quilters' Book Club.
If you are a new visitor to this blog, you can see all the posts from last year's book club, Here. Last year, I chose my favorite quilting books and spent some time each month revisiting them for sewing inspiration and told you a bit about why I like the book and projects. I chose a project from each book and made one 12" block inspired by that project, then turned them all into a Modern Sampler Quilt (Summer Blockbuster 2014, Here) in July.
