I know we all joke that quilters always have an ironing board set up but wear wrinkly clothes. (-: In my case, that's definitely true, BUT, just because the ironing station is not too glamorous and mostly utilitarian, we can still have fun toys over there!
I recently started using two new things for pressing my quilt blocks and they are fun AND functional, so I'm here to tell you all about it. In my latest video on Color Girl YouTube, I've done a sponsored video that's all about pressing for quilters. Now, the tutorial part of this video is...
To say the least, it's been quite a year. I dare say there isn't a person on earth not impacted by some aspect of the events of this year: wildfires in Australia and California, the pandemic, racial discord in the United States and the ongoing division and political debate over how to best address these issues and now we are facing an election. There have been natural disasters and human tragedies. I'm sure there is more that I'm not aware of around the world. I wanted to put down some thoughts here and how I would like to get...
What a summer it has been! For better or worse, we have made it this far: school is starting (albeit "home" school) and we all keep on keeping on. I do hope you all have had some chance to enjoy time with family, maybe a quarantine style vacation (whatever that look likes for you!), and plenty of creative time at the least.
If you need a little colorful, quilty therapy, I have a new quilt to share...and a new pattern right around the corner!
Updated: the Sunbeam pattern is now for sale! Find it << Here >>
Last winter, my friend Steph...
Attention curvy quilters! So excited to share a gorgeous new quilt pattern from Simone Quilts that you ARE going to want to make. I know that lots of us are fans of curved piecing around here and we know that the Classic Curves Ruler is the best for making quick work out of the cutting.
Simone's new pattern, Butterfly Bouquet, is such a sweet new addition to your curved piecing project list.
I love seeing other quilters making really cool quilt designs with curves...I so often see one and think, "I wish I'd thought of that!". A while back on Instagram...
Spring has sprung! at least for the moment here in Central Ohio, we have sunshine and freshness in the air. It's time for some fresh new sewing projects, wouldn't you say?
To welcome the new season and get inspired for fresh quilting, each week this month will feature a new special here in the website shop. Week 1 went so well, I'm holding it over! Continue enjoying week 1 deals through March 13. Don't wait, the sale on green and low volume fabrics will end for sure on March 13.
Here's what you will find at special prices during March Madness:
I don't know about you, but I just can't get enough of basic, all-over patterned quilts. Take one or two simple shapes, make them nice and big to show off pretty fabrics, and you have something sure to say "happy". The Mod Shapes quilt totally does that, plus! you'll learn a new technique with sewing half circles. It's easy enough to make a quick quilt, super fun to sew, and ideal for large scale fabric prints.
There is now a video up on Color Girl YouTube that's all you need to know to make this quilt. You'll learn how to...
Since I've been on a scrappy tear lately, I wanted to share some scrappy project ideas here. I spent time at the first of the year cleaning up my sewing space and it felt soooo good! I've felt a renewed interest in sewing with my stash and making scrappy quilts. Feeling like getting back to what I really love most about quilting: picking out fabrics and colors and putting them into just the right mix and piecing design.
That said, this first scrappy project isn't a quilt (although we are piecing scraps for part of it), but a cute little...
A big day, it's new pattern time! I feel like 2019 was one of my favorite years, quilt-wise, and now you can make one my personal favorites, too. <<get your Magic pattern here>>
Magic is a quilt I made as part of the promotional tour for Sharon Holland's fabric collection, Everlasting. I totally fell in love with the true, rich red and navy blue that are featured strongly in the fabrics. To complement the many floral prints, I chose a bright green tonal print for something a bit unexpected and playful. Plus, doesn't this lush color palette just make you...
Coming to you today with the quilt version of a New Year's Eve party (-: Now it's a free pattern tutorial on Color Girl YouTube.
Hope you enjoy this quilt as much as I do! It's versatile enough to be perfect for sewing some of your precious stash fabrics, scraps, or like mine: showcasing pretty Zip Stripes and Ombre Bloom fabrics.
There's nothing more fun that trying out a new shape or technique to grow our quilting repertoire and keep things interesting. 60* triangles are not super common in quilting, but they are a really fun shape to play with! They...
Join the group! (-:
One of the things I want to improve in 2020 is my quality time sewing and sharing that with the Color Girl quilting community. I've noticed on Facebook and Instagram that what I enjoy most is the interactions. I love it when a comment makes me laugh or you guys show me something you made with one of my patterns.
To attempt to meet this goal, I have created a group on Facebook for Colorful Quilters. The reason a group is better than a page for sharing is that in a group everyone can post, not just...
