At the beginning of 2013, I set out to make a series of quilts that are friendly to beginner quilters by requiring only basic piecing and cutting skills as well as having simple fabric requirements. One of those designs is "Jewel Box", back in my pattern shop, Color Girl Quilts, after a makeover that includes size options and improved graphic design.
The "Jewel Box" pattern comes with fabric requirements and instructions for a throw/baby size, which can be made with one layer cake plus a few fat quarters of solids. There is also a twin size option and both would...
I enjoyed each comment on my post last week about my sponsor, Canton Village Quilt Works, and I am so happy to announce that Cindy is the winner.
It sounds like others appreciate the same things that I do about Jackie's blog and shop: she carries fabrics that few do (Kaffe, Aboriginals, and HUGE selection of kona solids). Someone mentioned that their favorite is the Steam Punk pattern by Jen Kingwell. That pattern has been on my to-do list, too.
Maybe I should move it up a notch!
And, an accomplishment?
Now, this isn't anything big, but I am pretty proud to report that...
Today I am so happy to have a giveaway from my sponsor, Jackie, of Canton Village Quilt Works!
She is both a regular sponsor of my blog and also of the Polka Dot Bikini Quilt Along, so she is a great friend here at Fabrics & Flowers.
Jackie has been a quilt shop owner for four years and specializes in fabrics you won't find in other online fabric shops, like the Australian aboriginal prints and all things Kaffe Fassett (love those Spots!). She has recently remodeled her website and it looks beautiful: so bright and colorful, and easy to navigate.
Canton Village is a full service shop, with classes (you-tube), patterns, notions and kits in addition to...
I haven't done a flashback post in a while, so tonight I want to share a quilt I finished in 2007. I love how the creation of a quilt helps me remember certain times in my life, they all have some association for me.
This quilt was a collaboration. I found the appliqué blocks in a pattern by Hopscotch Quilts, but I wanted to create my own design around them.
Since I didn't appliqué then (still don't), I recruited my mom to sew the appliqué blocks while I did the piecing.
This quilt holds a happy memory for me as I worked...

I know I am a bit late, but, "Happy New Year" to all. What a great year was 2013! I had lots of fun chronicling my quilting projects here. Just want to remember a few of my favorites of 2013…

It is time for another fun Quilting Gallery bloghop. The theme for this time is giving thanks, appropriate as we in the States celebrate Thanksgiving next week and start the Holiday Season. If you are a new visitor, Welcome to Fabrics & Flowers! We have a lot of great quilting projects here.
This week, I am working on getting my modern double wedding ring quilted in time for the NY Modern Quilt Guild challenge on December 1. I am so excited to see all the fabulous quilts on display and innovative variations on this classic pattern.
I am also hosting a...
I am heading off to Sewing Summit in Salt Lake City tomorrow! so excited. Be sure and leave a comment and let me know if you are going to be there, too.
I am taking fabrics with me to make a mini quilt based on the Flying Rainbow block from our September Book Club book, PillowPop.
These beautiful rainbow scraps will be the geese. I am loving the colors!! It took me FOREVER to decide on the fabrics so that they made a nice blendy rainbow. Should be a fun, quick one to make during open sewing time.
I won't be posting...
So, I have been unofficially following lots of quilting blogs for quite awhile. I decided it was time to share my own inspiration and hopefully join some conversations!
I'm Sharon, and I live in the Columbus, Ohio, area. I don't know if living in Ohio technically makes me a yankee or not, but that is my quilting name, Yankee Quilter.
I have one full time job...see below...two very blonde little boys, who are busy and tons of fun to have.
I am also married, but the hubby is pretty much self-sufficient except when it comes to throwing away empty envelopes after opening...
