So happy to share (another) finished Rise Above quilt! I made my first version of this pattern last winter as I was filming the video demonstrations and preparing for the quilt along we did in the spring. For ten weeks, a group of us worked together on sewing the Rise Above quilt with lots of support from each other and the quilt along materials that came with participation. In order to participate with the QAL in real time, I made a second version of the Rise Above pattern during the event (-:
It’s always fun to see how different a quilt looks in different colors and fabrics. <<see my original quilt here>>
The original Rise Above pattern is by Charisma Horton…if you aren’t familiar with her designs, definitely check her out. I like her style a lot and her patterns are very well written. Many are designed as block of the month programs, so divided into simple “chunks” that make sewing the quilts manageable (-:
While my original Rise Above included a more tertiary color palette, with olive green, coral, periwinkle and aqua, among other colors, so I wanted to make my second version with primary colors for a different look. I used fabrics from the shop shelves including prints from the Breaking News collection by Uppercase (Windham Fabrics) and basics by Alison Glass (Andover fabrics).
I especially love how I could fussy cut the text prints for cute “windows” in the centers of the star blocks. Those prints are so fun and fussy cutting isn’t something I do very often!
Since we finished the quilt along in June, I have packaged the entire program into a virtual workshop. So if you missed the quilt along or weren’t sure about it, you can still sew this fabulous quilt with me! When you join, you’ll get all the materials we used week by week, but all at once to work at your own pace through the pattern.
For the virtual workshop, you get to watch ten live videos demonstrating how to cut, sew, press and everything else for each step of the quilt, including one for sewing the top all together. There are lots of great tips included for trying alternate block arrangements, and choosing fabrics and colors. The program also includes worksheets for each step to help you choose fabrics and make direct replacements for what I use in the videos and what is shown on the pattern.
Fabric kits are also available. See all the Rise Above options <<here>>
This quilt is so much fun! I can’t decide which version I like best, they are both so cute and include some really favorite fabrics. I hope you’ll join the workshop and sew it along with me!
What colors will you choose?
