It’s finally time to tell you my news! I have been working behind the scenes for two months to prepare the biggest quilt along event we’ve ever hosted. This is one you don’t want to miss because it’s as close to ‘in person’ as we can get: I’ll be sewing right along with you and teaching you the steps via video throughout.
Rise Above is a modern medallion style quilt by Charisma Horton. I saw it and knew it would make an amazing project for a quilt along. It features basic shapes and classic blocks in a creative layout that I think will appeal to so many quilters. I also know it is a great project for all skill levels…we need a sew along for ALL the colorful quilters (-:
Read on for the plans and how to join!
The Rise Above pattern creates a finished quilt that is 96″ x 96″ and it’s written in manageable sections for making the components at an easy pace. For our Quilt Along, we will start April 5 and make one section per week for ten weeks. The tenth week is for sewing all the blocks together into a finished top. This strategy makes even a quilt this large really doable!
The best part is that I’m making the quilt right along with you “in person”. Each week of the program, you’ll receive an email with a video demonstration for that week’s section. I’ll show you exactly how to do all the cutting, piecing, and pressing. We will even talk about lots of extras, like colors and fabrics, ideas for easy variations to make yours unique…SO MUCH FUN!
Are you as excited to get started as I am?
Join now by purchasing the pattern/QAL package, <<here>>
This price includes the full quilt pattern, TEN instructional videos from me, weekly emails with a pdf download showing that week’s project, access to the private Facebook group just for Rise Above QAL, and lots of fun bonuses throughout the program.
You can also purchase just the pattern, or just the QAL membership (if you already have the pattern). All the options are <<here>>
Okay, Ready? after you get signed up and have your pattern, you’ll need fabric!
I couldn’t resist making my version of the quilt with something completely different from the original. I’ve put together a kit of fabrics just like the ones I used and that you’ll see in the videos. If you have this kit for the QAL, I’ll be showing you in the videos exactly where to use each fabric (and giving you ideas for going your own way sometimes, too). You can’t go wrong!

This kit includes 16 different fabrics: 8 prints and 8 coordinating solids, to make a quilt like mine. You’ll have plenty for making the full 96″ x 96″ quilt top.
Option: if you’ve committed to sewing with fabrics you already have (I understand!), I’ve also made a “starter kit” that includes only the 8 prints in quantities to make the quilt like mine, you just add the solids (or more prints) to complete your quilt. This is a great option if you love the fabrics I’ve chosen, but want to add more of your own color personality to it.

Of course, all are welcome, and buying a kit isn’t required. Make your own selection of fabrics and join us! We will enjoy seeing what each other come up with.
of course the original quilt is so striking, it’s hard to resist making one just like it! I also have a kit of fabrics with colors featured in the original (except in PRINTS!). This kit includes the ten colors listed in the pattern, plus solid white. This one makes it easy to follow right along with the pattern and you know you’ll end up with an AMAZING quilt!

Let’s do this:
Sign up and get your kits early! Fingers crossed that we will have a lot of quilters join in, and I want to make sure I can get kits to everyone before April 5. The sooner you order, the more likely I can re-order fabric to keep kits in stock for all who want one. I really appreciate your help with that (-: *I’ve planned for this by having fabrics in stock, but there is always the chance that I won’t be able to get the exact same prints again and re-stocked kits will have some differences. You can be confident I’ll always make fabulous choices if we have to make replacements*
Right after you sign up, you’ll get a welcome email. Make sure you check you spam folder if you don’t see it right away and add Color Girl to your safe emails. I don’t want you to miss a single message, and definitely not those weekly video workshops.
Whew! if I missed any detail, just ask. Otherwise I’ll see you in the Quilt Along,
