Maybe it makes me a nerd, but I always enjoy the end of the year announcements of Color of the Year (-:
Last year I totally loved Kona’s choice of Splash…a pretty, watery blue that pretty much goes with everything and looks so fresh! For 2020, Kona Cotton (Robert Kaufman Fabrics) has chosen a rich emerald green as the color of 2020. This beauty is called Enchanted and I think it lives up to its name quite nicely.
Will you be sewing with Enchanted in 2020? I have links to some *free* patterns below, keep reading!
Here’s why I like Enchanted: it’s rich and deep…not too bright and not too dark. Jewel tones like this are so easy to use in quilts because they coordinate nicely with airy florals (which I love to use!) and dots. Rich colors like this are great for adding contrast to our fabric palettes so that piecing patterns really stand out. Prints in photo above are all available here in the website shop. Don’t they make a beautiful palette of prints?
Speaking of contrast, Enchanted and others like it (think dark purples, deep reds and sapphire blue) can be kind of a chameleon. They can be a calming background to support lighter or brighter colors and busier prints, or they can hold their own in a palette of other jewel tones where color, rather than value, creates effective contrast.
Good news for us! Robert Kaufman has several free patterns available to help you utilize Enchanted and get you sewing. Links to my favorites are below. I hope you take these and add your own favorite colors and fabrics to enjoy Enchanted. <<click here to buy Enchanted yardage>>
Rhapsody in Green by Darlene Zimmerman: hello green! this monochromatic beauty is easy piecing and fun. I’m thinking I’d replace some of the greens with shades of peach for a feminine look.
Highland by Ariga Mahmoudlou: my favorite! Isn’t this soft look just swoon worthy? This pattern is going to be fun to play with color. Here’s a suggestion: keep the green flying geese pieces and white parts as they are and replace the gray squares with a favorite print that incorporates Enchanted and other greens and pinks.
Enchanted Tiles by Elise Lea: Here’s your chance to have fun with color. The Enchanted green, white and grey provide the foundation, you add the fun. Choose prints from your stash, solid colors like the pattern shows, or keep it simple with just one color for all.
Happy Sewing and Happy New Year!
