It’s here, it’s here! I always love sharing a new quilt design with all of you and seeing what you make with it. This month the big reveal is Untamed, the newest quilt pattern for the Classic Curves Ruler. I feel particularly fond of this quilt because I think there is a lot of potential for interesting variations by changing the color placement or fabric style. It’s a really fun one to sew and see the pattern come together.
This quilt was born when Sarah of No Hats Quilts contacted me to ask if I wanted to sew something with her new fabric collection, Untamed. The fabrics are an upcoming batik collection with Hoffman Fabrics’ You and Me brand. These batiks are really fun to sew with because the colors are SUPER saturated and bright and they are all tone-on-tone so you can basically use them like solids.
I know it’s probably really predictable for me, but when I saw the black and white pieces in the collection, I knew I wanted to do something really graphic. Combining the contrast of the black and white with the bright colors has kind of become my favorite go-to! Plus, I was able to finish the quilt at the Lakeside retreat last month, so it was fun taking pictures there by Lake Erie and around the village.
I LOVE the motion created by the curved shapes in Untamed! The pattern includes three size options but it’s easy to adapt to your own preference by making more or fewer blocks and arranging them how you want (might be a cool runner, too!). Mine has Hobbs cotton batting inside and quilting by Darby of Quilted Squid. The scrappy binding really finishes off the playful look, don’t you think?
The patterns are now available to purchase here on the website (pdf files) and later this month I’ll have them in print for shops to order wholesale. If you have a favorite local shop, I’d love it if you ask them to stock the Classic Curves Ruler and Color Girl patterns.
The fabric isn’t in stores yet and I plan to get some for the shop here, so look out for them later this year. They will probably be the prettiest batiks you’ve ever seen! Let me know if you’d be interested in a kit to make a quilt like the pattern.
