Happy February! We are nearing the end of the Pixie Medallion quilt along, just one more month to go. But first, I’m sharing my progress for our January goal. We worked on the shoo-fly blocks for border two, and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s looking! (it’s getting too big to photograph well (-: )
I decided to go with the white background so these blocks would have a nice contrast to the yellow in the snowball border. I like how clean the white looks with the bright prints, and also how it ties into the white strips around the center star.
For the print shapes in these blocks, I didn’t limit the palette, but chose vibrant prints that would pop on the white and also contrast with the green fabrics I used for the cross shapes. This is one of those cases where you could go totally crazy with variety…my favorite kind of project! For this border and my entire quilt, I am using all fabrics from my stash of Art Gallery Fabrics. It feels great to use some favorite prints I’ve had for a while: to get them out and enjoy them and create something that really showcases them.
You will find all the previous posts for the quilt along, Here. Everyone is welcome to join any time. The posts will stay here on the site forever, so you’ll have them to reference when you start your own Pixie.
This month we are sewing the last border! I see a whole bunch of flying geese blocks in our future (-: I am still deciding which colors and fabrics to use for mine. Should I go rainbow order like the original quilt? or something different? hm.
