Here we are two months in on the Pixie Medallion Quilt Along. If you are just joining or interested in the Quilt Along, you’ll find the first post with information and schedule, Here. The pattern is available Here.
I have just finished my first border, the snowball blocks. These cute little blocks come together pretty fast with strip piecing. My favorite part of this border was picking out all the pretty pink and blue prints in my stash. I love the look of using a limited color palette, but a large variety of fabrics within those colors.
As you can see, I am going with a pretty saturated color scheme for this version of the Pixie. The choice of yellow print for the background of the snowball border was a bit on the fly. I had planned on making it white…and I am not entirely sure the yellow was the right choice, but I do think it’s lots of fun. I will definitely plan to lighten things up with the next border so we get some balance back.
Starting in January we will be on to the next border, the Shoo-Fly blocks. These are cute little blocks and, as always, it’s fun to choose fabrics. I hope you all get some sewing time squeezed in during your holidays!
Don’t forget to post your Pixie progress on Instagram using #greatpixieqal and tag me @colorgirlquilts and my cohost, Wendy @thenextstitch . I have really enjoyed the variety we have seen so far…it’s amazing how different a quilt looks in different colors (-:
