Who wants to sew along with me? The kids are back in school, summer vacations are over, and we are looking at new projects to sew, right? I am going to be working on a few quilts for Quilt Market in October, but I also want to do something just for fun. I am planning to join @thenextstitch, an Australian shop who is starting a quilt along with my Pixie Medallion Quilt soon. I want to make a new version for myself and support you as you make one along with me.
My birthday is in October, and the best gift I can think of is to have the opportunity to make a fun quilt with all my virtual friends! Last weekend, I had a wonderful time at a two day retreat in beautiful Lakeside, Ohio. I love how quilting makes instant friends of strangers, and having the opportunity to teach another quilter a new sewing skill is incredibly rewarding.
Pixie is an impressive quilt (I think, anyway), but it’s not as difficult to make as it might look at first glance. I plan start the Quilt Along the first of October and have set a goal of doing a section at a time about every two to three weeks. I will be posting my progress, plus tips and tricks and measurements to help you along the way.
The finished Pixie Medallion quilt is 71″ square, but you can adjust your size as desired by stopping after any border along the way. During September, you will gather your pattern and decide on fabrics. We will get started the first part of October. During the month of September you can get your pattern for $10 with discount code “Pixie” at checkout on this site. Click Here.
I am excited to get out a favorite group of fabric and make my new Pixie along with you! Be sure and post in-progress on Color Girl Facebook and Instagram. The Australian shop @thenextstitch is carrying the patterns for my Australian friends, and she is also hosting a QAL including fabric kits you can get for your Pixie. You can download the Pixie Medallion pattern, Here, or ask your local quilt shop to stock the paper patterns.
I hope you will join in and sew a Pixie Medallion quilt with me. If you haven’t tried a medallion quilt before, I will warn you they are super fun and you might keep making them (-: Get your pattern and fabrics ready!
