My Friend, Amy, of During Quiet Time, has just released her first fabric collection with Benartex! This is such an exciting achievement and couldn’t have happened to a nicer person. Amy’s collection is called Improv, and is filled with useful basics in soft, summery colors. This week is the tour of inspiration as sewists around the blog and social media world show what they have made with these lovely fabrics. Be sure and follow along with Benartex and visit each stop for a chance to win a bundle of this pretty fabric for yourself (more on that in a minute….).
I decided to make another Picnic quilt with my Improv fabrics. I thought it would be a pretty design for the geometric prints and limited color palette, and show the pattern in a look completely different from my first Picnic quilt. Improv includes prints in shades of pink, gray, apricot, and green in a great selection of values, so you don’t need to add anything to make a beautiful quilt.
I chose the light peachy pink and a white print for my two main “background” fabrics, and a selection of the others for the orange peel shapes. Even though there isn’t a ton of contrast in some of the prints, I like the mix of light and dark that creates interest and balance.
And, while it looked great with just the piecing, I am thrilled with how the whole quilt looks with the appliqué circles in the beautiful raspberry pink print. Doesn’t that just add the perfect pop? totally brings the whole thing together. I can’t wait to get it quilted!
This quilt came together super fast using the Classic Curves Ruler for cutting the shapes. The curves are easy and fit together for breezy sewing. I also think the prints and color palette would look great in big hexagons (-:
Be sure and watch for Improv fabrics at your local shop and favorite online fabric source. I have a bundle to give away to one lucky winner (open in U.S. only, please). To enter, leave a comment here and tell me your favorite type of piecing…do you love curves like me? or maybe English Paper Piecing, or Foundation Paper Piecing like Amy? I will pick a winner on Sunday and update this post.
**Giveaway Closed** The Winner is Paula! Thank you all for visiting. I enjoy your comments!
