New Quilt in Love Patchwork and Quilting!

I know I say this every time, but I SUPER happy to finally share this little quilt with you! Color Story is featured this month in Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine. This issue is on newsstands now in the U.K. and will be here in the U.S. in 3-4 weeks. Be sure and watch out for it…always a pretty publication.

Color Story is a wall hanging size or baby quilt. I truly enjoyed making this one…from the design to the fabric and sewing. Fabrics are from one of my “collections” (bins of fabrics waiting for just the right project), including the yellow green, blues and light ‘low volume’ prints. I decided on the coral color for the rings because I like how the orange tone complements the blues but the touch of pink also favors the green. The rings add a subtle secondary pattern in the patchwork.

I also used Hobbs batting and Aurifil thread…two favorites! and quilting was done by Darby Myers of Quilted Squid. I like how the quilting is very subtle and adds texture but the piecing really is the star. Hobbs batting is so nice for wall hanging quilts because it is very lightweight.

I think this design would be fun to play with in different colors. It would be really striking in a more minimal palette like black, white and gray. Or experiment with emphasis by altering the value on the rings versus the circles/wedges. What ideas do you have for this?
