Happy Spring to you! It has been a busy couple of weeks (I had to build a kite at a school! I will show you more later), but now I am on spring break and have some time to breathe…and sew! I am really excited to be making some quilts for samples at Quilt Market in May.
Today I want to tell you about a new-to-me quilt magazine that I am really enjoying. I don’t know why Modern Quilts Unlimited has not really been on my radar before, but I recently picked up the newest issue at a local bookstore. It is a really great issue! I am looking forward to checking this one out more in the future.
I would consider myself pretty critical of quilting magazines and books. Since I usually design my own quilts, I only buy magazines and books I find really inspirational or have lots of quality projects. This issue of MQU is full of neat quilt patterns! I have two favorites here: the one above is “Will You be You?” by Stacey Day. Just a cool and versatile-looking design. I love the color scheme, but it would be super pretty in warm pinks, orange and yellow, too (maybe a black background?).
This unusual design just strikes me right. The sample is made with a variety of prints from Cotton + Steel and I just love the scrappy look. You cannot go wrong with all prints…down to the low-volume scrappy backgrounds. I am imagining this one with solids in place of the dark triangles/gemstone shapes with favorite prints in the light oval-shapes.
There is also a neat paper-pieced quilt called “Diamonds in the Sky” by Cheryl Brickey that is really neat and looks fun to sew, plus features on upcoming fabric collections and books. If you are getting ready for your own spring break getaway and need your quilty fix or reading material, this issue of Modern Quilts Unlimited is worth a look.
(in case you are wondering, I have no affiliation with MQU. I just bought this magazine and really liked it so I thought I would pass that on to readers)
