Recommended Reading: Windy City Bags

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy of Sara Lawson's brand new sewing book, Windy City Bags, and I thought I would tell you bit of my thoughts about it. I have a love-hate relationship with the Purse. I am constantly torn between the need to carry my essential stuff (credit cards, phone, lip balm, nail clippers...) but really hate carrying a purse. This is an especially real problem now that I am in school since I have a book bag and often art supplies to haul around too. Long story start: I currently carry a woefully...

Quickie Quilt with EZ Quilting Tri-Rec

It feel so good to be sewing again! Last Saturday I told you about a brand new quilt project using new fabrics from Art Gallery...but I had to interrupt that beauty for a minute to do another. I have avoided taking on "commitment" projects the last few months because of school, but I was thrilled to accept the offer from EZ quilting to make a quilt with their Tri-Recs tool during my winter break. I already owned the EZ dresden plate ruler, but I had no idea they had so many different shapes of tools! I am excited to try...

Quilt in Progress, Avante Garde Hexagons

There is some beautiful new fabric are coming to town! AvantGarde is the brand new collection from Katarina Roccella for Art Gallery Fabrics. If you have been following this blog for long, you probably know I am a huge fan of Katarina's prints. Avante Garde is a masterpiece of artsy abstract prints and big, bold color. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a few of the prints and I am going to make a quilt for the AvantGarde tour to promote the fabric in January. I decided I wanted to play up the strong geometric shapes and big...

For the Love of Fabric: Imprint

I haven't done a lot of fabric shopping lately, but I had to take advantage of some black Friday sales to get some favorites I have been eyeing. The Imprint collection by Katarina Roccella for Art Gallery fabrics is one that is so me! I am always drawn most to the basics in designer collections: geometrics, small scale prints, and florals. This is a Whole Collection of unique basics! What a great addition to a fabric stash palette. Today I am mixing them up with some other bits from my stash (new and old) to see what kind of...

Archer Quilt, Finished Quilts

Gorgeous! A New Archer Quilt

Have you had a chance to see the newest quilt pattern in my shop? A couple of weeks ago I added the Archer quilt pattern, and now I have a beautiful new sample to share with you. This is the medium size, throw quilt featured in the pattern (it comes with three size options) and was sewn up by my mom (AKA pattern tester, sample quilt-maker extraordinaire). I so wanted to make this one myself because I absolutely love the fabrics I had picked for it...but time just hasn't been on my side for quilting the last few months....

New AQ Magazine, Featuring Skopelos Quilt

The newest issue of AQ (American Quilter) magazine is brand new in many ways, and features a new quilt and pattern designed by me called Skopelos! I made Skopelos last spring with the fabric collection of that name by Katarina Rocella for Art Gallery Fabrics. The colors in these fabrics are so vibrant and the depth of the print designs is signature Katarina. She has proven to be so talented in her brief time in the quilting market...I am so excited to keep sewing with her fabrics! The quilting is by Darby Myers of Quilted Squid, batting is Hobbs...
