Quilt In Progress with Sketchbook Fabrics

Sketchbook fabrics by Sharon Holland for Art Gallery Fabrics

I feel pretty lucky to be friends with Sharon Holland and have the opportunity to sew with her brand new fabrics, “Sketchbook”, for Art Gallery Fabrics. Sharon asked me to sew a quilt to show the pretty prints as they are getting to stores very soon, and of course I said, “yes!”.

Sketchbook is a collection of prints inspired by naturalistic drawings and doodles you might make in a garden or out for a summer walk. My two favorites are those at the bottom of the photo above, the sketchy circles: each big polka dot is a different color and pattern! I also love the blue with the dandelion puffs and blown seeds. That shade of blue is found throughout the collection and I think it is just really beautiful.

My first idea was to make a Star Crossed quilt (see Pattern Here), using the pretty blue fabrics as the stars and the other prints as the crosses. The green and white solids and the yellow dot are all part of the Art Gallery basics collections. I have a few of the stars sewn and the crosses cut, and I love how this looks partially laid out!

Be sure and watch the Art Gallery Fabrics blog for a giveaway of the Sketchbook prints in the next week or so. I know Sharon has been sewing like crazy to make project samples to inspire you all to sew with these beauties.

These are wonderful prints-I always love that pen sketch look-so much detail just with lines! Looking forward to seeing more!
