It seems my sewing time has been short lately, but I really wanted to squeeze in this quick “finish”: the X and + block border on my Aviatrix Medallion quilt. I posted previously about how much fun these blocks are and they are really cute all by themselves (you may have seen whole quilts made of these blocks, they are pretty popular for good reason). I decided for this round of the medallion to focus on pink and green alternating for the X and do all the plus shapes in navy blue. I feel like this is a pretty limited palette for me, and came close a few times to breaking it up with more colors.
Yesterday, as I was sewing up my last eight blocks, I had the terrible feeling that it wasn’t going to work out. I thought about leaving this border off completely because I just wasn’t liking it a lot as I had it laid out on my sewing room floor. But once I had all the blocks completed, I took all of them and the center part of the quilt outside and laid them out in the sunshine and voila! it was good. Thank goodness!
I am feeling like I definitely need to lighten it up with the next border by bringing the white and aqua from the center back in. I plan on going all white, bright and scrappy for the log cabin block border. That is the second to last border…so this Quilt in Progress is almost there!
The Aviatrix Medallion pattern is by Elizabeth Hartman. You can purchase it from Canton Village Quilt Works.
Have a great week! Linking up with Lee for WIP Wednesday

The border looks great, and I like your plan to lighten up the next border.
I liked Elizabeth Hartman’s original Aviatrix Medallion, but your soft, creamy version with the fun prints is delicious!
that is so beautiful. I love the colours in your centre medallion.
I like the limited palette. I think bright colours for the next border sound good too! It looks so pretty with the sun shining through.
Beautiful….The center birds remind me of “Doves in a Window” pattern which is on my list to make. I may change my mind an do Aviatrix Medallion first! Love the choices of fabrics and colors.
This is such a wonderful, happy quilt. I love your color choices.
