As the days go by, it is so easy to get caught up in all the things I “have” or “want” to get finished, places to be and dinner to cook. Since my kids were born, I have found myself frequently stopping and seeing a moment from the outside in and thinking, “I want to remember this moment forever”. This is my way of letting time stand still for a moment and just being…being present in my own life, seeing my kids in the fleeting moment where they are because they change so fast, or just basking in a certain glow.
This past year has offered many opportunities for such “snapshot” moments. I have felt immense gratitude for all I am given every day, especially my family, home, and health.
When I received my issue of Modern Patchwork in April, with my name and my quilt and my words in print for the first time…not to mention seeing the magazine on shelves at Barnes and Noble…it was an amazing feeling! Every day, my kids drive me nuts half the time, but I am endlessly thankful they are healthy, rambunctious, often silly little boys. They make me laugh, surprise me with their growing intelligence and senses of humor, and warm my heart with their love for each other.
Each email from paypal to say someone has purchased one of my quilt patterns gave me a thrill but also a sense of humility. I am so grateful for the incredible opportunity I have to devote myself to my love of quilting and the blessings I experience every day.
As we celebrate Christmas with family, I am reminded what a wonder this life is, and so look forward to another year (and more!) of memorable moments large and small, with my family, my creative goals, and more.
It is my hope for each of you in my little circle of sewing friends, that you have a joyful Christmas and happy year of moments to “remember forever”, and lots of time to sew!
Merry Christmas from my family to yours,
