First: a winner for this week’s giveaway, a summer 2014 copy of Modern Patchwork, comment #18 was Barbara Woods! hooray! Thanks for reading my blog, all. There will be lots more giveaways now through the holidays, so visit often.
Last weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to go the first ever Sewtopia sewing and quilting retreat in Salt Lake City. I cannot even imagine the effort it must take to organize an event like this, but it was absolutely perfect! I am lucky that my mom happens to live in SLC, so I flew out a day before Sewtopia started and spent time with her: quilt shops, sewing, just chatting…
I posted a couple times over the last few months about my project in the Michael Miller fabric challenge. This photo shows just some of the entries: mine is the rings quilt (Hula Girl) in the lower right corner, above. It was really fun to see all the ways people made something with the same fabric as a starting point!
The best part of going on a sewing retreat is making new friends and having uninterrupted time to sew! I made this baby quilt in just one morning, another sample of my “Dutch Windmill” pattern, which will be available in my shop this coming week. It is so much fun walking around the room talking with other sewers and seeing all the different quilts and bags coming together.
I went by myself, so I pretty much just found a seat the first day. Luckily, I planted myself next to Christa Watson (Christa Quilts) and we became fast friends, totally hit it off, and have a lot in common. We pretty much spent the entire weekend together. It was also really amazing to meet other people whom I have admired on blogs and such. The photo above is my lunch group on Saturday: Amy (Diary of a Quilter), Lee (Freshly Pieced), @piecesandcream, Christa, and Kati (From the Blue chair). Everyone is so friendly and fun!
A little glimpse of the table I shared with Christa, Erin and Stephanie, who were fabulous (hoping/planning to meet them again next year at Sewtopia Portland). We made a big mess, sewed and even finished some projects, laughed and talked non-stop. Heavenly. I took this picture after I won that solids fat quarter bundle in a drawing. Perfect!
Keep warm out there!
