Today is the day to make the last 6″ sampler quilt block for this month. I am pretty happy with how all eight of mine have turned out! Check out the first four, made from Tula Pink’s book, “100 Modern Quilt Blocks”, Here. The instructions to make the other blocks I designed can be found Here. This month is cross blocks, so we have this cutie to make today.
From the Dark Blue: cut (4) 3″ x 3″ squares
From the Yellow: cut (4) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ squares
From the Light Multi print: cut (2) 2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangles, cut (1) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangle
1. sew two of the yellow 1 1/2″ squares each to one of the light print 2″ x 1/2″ rectangles. Press.
2. sew the other two yellow 1 1/2″ squares to each end of the 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ light print rectangle. Press.
3. Lay the pieces out as shown above. Sew the dark blue squares to opposite sides of the smaller two yellow/print units. Press toward the dark blue.
4. Sew the dark blue units to opposite sides of the center yellow/print strip. Press toward the dark blue.
In case you were wondering, the fabrics I am using for these blocks come from the collection “Figures” by Zen Chic for Moda Fabrics. It is brand new and widely available now in stores, I love all the little cross and dot prints and of course: numbers and letters on fabric are always a good idea. It comes in five distinct color ways, too: dark blue, light blue, pink, gray and yellow. This makes it a perfect choice for sampler blocks!
Happy Sewing! I hope you have enjoyed the week devoted to making 6″ blocks. I plan to do this series once every month and by next summer I will have 72 blocks to make into a quilt!
