Work in Progress Hiccups

Modern Wedding Ring Quilt

I love this quilt! I feel like it’s okay to gush a bit because I didn’t actually make it. This is variation on my modern wedding ring quilt that I designed and made for the NY Modern Quilt Guild challenge last fall.

I created the design for this version and my Mom sewed it up while she was here last month. She is a master at the low volume concept, and I think this quilt has so much interest. The finished quilt will be a bit of both of us. You see, I am going to quilt and bind it and produce the pattern so you can make one too.

I got so excited about this quilt, I decided to start quilting it as soon as possible, which turned out to be the weekend before we left for Hawaii. Unfortunately, I had taken my regular machine in for cleaning and tune-up while we were gone (I would miss it too much if I was home without it!).

I basted. I got out my Sashiko machine. I wasted a bunch of time and got very little done. My Sashiko machine is really acting up and I am so frustrated with it. Now I am unpicking the quilting I did do and debating about redoing it on my machine or taking it to be long-arm quilted. What a bummer.

But as hiccups go, this is pretty minor. I am still really excited about this quilt and even started the illustrations for the pattern during our (looooong) flight.

So at least I have that going for me.

**note to reader who inquired about this quilt and pattern previously. I apologize for the lack of response. The email address attached to your message didn’t work. Yes! there will be a pattern!

Oh, no! What’s with the sashiko machine? 🙁 I absolutely detest mechanical hiccups. They stress me out – I really need to learn to deal better with them. LOVE this design. 😀
