Happy Thursday! hard to believe it has been two weeks since the last Quilt Along Post, but here we are. Did you start on your border blocks?
If you are just joining, see the QAL page Here. It’s not too late to start your own Polka Dot Bikini Quilt.
Our goal for today was to have the four corner blocks done and four of the border blocks.
Here are some of my border blocks:
You can see more of my “process” photos on my Instagram feed, too. I wanted to link to the Instagram #bikiniquilt group, too, but I cannot figure out how to do it. If you are on instagram, be sure and check out the pretty projects and add yours, too!
**Someone asked in a comment (but there was no email attached to reply) what fabrics I am using in my version. The solids are a variety of blue and aqua that I had in my stash. I am allowing myself a really wide range of shades and I love how they all look together.
My prints are shades of blue again, plus peach and orange, again lots of different shades. Many of the prints are from recent Art Gallery Fabrics collections, especially “Tule”, “Indian Summer”, “Meadow”, and “Safari Moon”. Those collections all have beautiful prints in soft blues and peach. I also added some polka dots and a few from Alison Glass’ recent collection “Sun Prints” (which I cannot gush about enough, I love those feathers/text/streamer prints). I hope that is helpful. Our QAL sponsor,
Pink Castle Fabrics carries all of these fabrics.
I also wanted to share these inspiring projects, all from the Flickr group (click on the photos to visit the creators’ pages)
|Above, Mishi Kichi is using black and white prints for for the pod shapes and bright solids…always a great combination!|
Kris is making a beautiful version with variety of prints, and I love her addition of the green! Be sure and visit her flickr page, she is showing lots of amazing projects!
As you can see, there is some good progress on our quilts. If you are participating in the quilt-along, or want to join in, I hope this makes you feel inspired to keep sewing! I would really love to see more projects.
In two weeks, our goal is to have completed four more border blocks and two more center blocks. We will also have a giveaway sponsored by Pink Castle Fabrics for QAL participants, so I hope to see you then!
