At the beginning of 2013, I set out to make a series of quilts that are friendly to beginner quilters by requiring only basic piecing and cutting skills as well as having simple fabric requirements. One of those designs is “Jewel Box“, back in my pattern shop, Color Girl Quilts, after a makeover that includes size options and improved graphic design.
The “Jewel Box” pattern comes with fabric requirements and instructions for a throw/baby size, which can be made with one layer cake plus a few fat quarters of solids. There is also a twin size option and both would be simple to adjust to your taste by changing the block number or adding borders. I would like to see one made with the blocks on-point, too!
I think there are so many ways you could make this design your own. I love how the pairs of solid color “boxes” tumble back and forth across the prints. It would be cool to emphasize this design element by making the “boxes” the same color in each pair and using lighter prints (we love the “low volume” craze) for the blocks.
lots of options! If you want to see my other patterns, please visit my Craftsy shop. You can download the pattern immediately and start sewing! You will find other beginner designs like this one or more advanced patterns if you want an adventure.
I like giveaways, do you? how about a pattern giveaway from Color Girl? all you have to do is visit my pattern shop and leave a comment here telling me which is your favorite and you could win it. I will choose a winner next Sunday…if you already have the one that is your favorite, and you win, you can choose your second-favorite! (if you have been on the fence about the “Polka Dot Bikini”
Quilt Along…here is your chance…)
Let’s just go a bit crazy, shall we?

Wow! That’s a toughie!! I have to say, I really like your patterns – they are right in line with the type of quilts I like to make, so it’s really hard to choose a favorite. I guess I would have to choose Twirling Fans. That’s the one that I first saw on Pinterest and was totally floored by it. Of course, it led me to your blog, where I saw Polka Dot Bikini and I fell in love again! And now I’m pretty much smitten with Jewel Box 🙂 And I’m already a happy follower!
It’s always hard to pick 1 favorite, but I think mine is Reflections. Thanks for the giveaway!
