On the Newsstand: Fresh Quilts

I don’t subscribe to quilting magazines, but I do love to go to Barnes and Noble and flip through the current issues to see what’s new. Recently I ran across a brand new title, Fresh Quilts, and it is a lovely magazine. I actually decided to buy this one and post about it for two reasons: Inspiration and Challenge.

This is the first issue, and it is full of a variety of projects, from quilts, to clothing, to “snugglies” (that’s what my boys call stuffed animals and the like).

This quilt is inspiring to me. I love the idea of each block done monochromatically. Wouldn’t it be a fun, modern way to do a sampler: each block a color? Or how about a medallion quilt where each border is done all in fabrics of a single color? You could interpret this idea in so many ways for different quilts. Funny what strikes you on a given day, right?

My second goal for this year is to challenge myself in my sewing. (read about the first goal Here)
I saw the pattern for these miniature “yoga pants” and I really want to try and make them. Linh, if you are reading this, I am counting on you to help me! I was wishing they came in adult sizes, but I figure if I can practice on tiny ones, maybe my next challenge will be some pajama pants for myself.

Another thing I have been wanting to try is making pillows. I think I will use some of my very favorite fabrics and make pillows for my new family room, then I can see them all the time!

Okay, so two project goals I have set for myself: sew pants and pillows. I will show and tell when I do them.
In the meantime, if you need some sewing inspiration, Fresh Quilts is worth a look!

Have a great week,

Sharon, you are so funny! You make these complicated curved quilts so you should not be worried about making clothes. I have been sewing clothes on and off for many years and I don’t think you will have any trouble. 🙂
I am going to work on more Polka dot bikini blocks today so I know!
Great new magazine. It looks so fresh so thanks for sharing.

  4. Nice looking magazine, wonder if we will eventually get it here in Australia

    1. Sharon says:

I sent the editor an email to ask about it in Australia. I will let you know if they get back to me.

What a great magazine. This yoga pants are really cute, can’t wait to see what you choose for fabric!

  6. Brenda says:

Go for the pants. They are absolutely the easiest thing to make, especially with an elastic waist. Three seams, a couple of hems, an elastic casing, and you’re done!

I love comments! thanks for stopping by.
