So thrilled to show my entry in the NY Modern Quilt guild show on the classic Double Wedding Ring quilt.
I decided to go with my own interpretation of this classic quilting design. The pink and orange background is a mix of scrappy squares and the rings are pieced strips (in keeping with the classic design of the pieced arcs) of various shades of aqua, lime and yellow.
This design evolved a couple of times during the making as I got to piecing and made adjustments for maximum impact, but I am pretty happy with how it turned out! *Edited: A pattern for this quilt design is now available in my pattern shop. Pattern is Hula Girl.
On my blog hop post from last week, lots and lots of people answered the question, “what is your favorite classic quilt design you would like to re-create?” with the Double Wedding Ring. There should be lots of great classic and modern inspiration for this pattern on the Challenge Website.
For the quilting, I outlined each ring with quilting in bright green, using crochet thread! I love the way it makes a heavier stitch that stands out a bit more than the regular quilting thread. The green crochet thread was also used to stitch an “overlaid” ring pattern mimicking the tradition wedding ring pattern.
It is so much fun to have a finish to show! looking forward to seeing the other entries in the Challenge.
I also have winners from last week’s giveaway:
Paula (The Sassy Quilter)
Sheryl (Unexpected Moments)
are each receiving a fat quarter bundle and EllaandNesta received the pdf copy of the Zen Garden pattern.
Thank you all for the comments! I enjoy reading each one and learning more about quilters around the world.
Happy Thanksgiving!
