I know I am a little late to this party, but I have been wanting to make a Marcelle Medallion quilt, so I have started! this is my center “medallion” block.
My mom and I had talked about doing this together as a long-distance sew along. She started first and already has me lapped. Here is the start of hers, medallion along with some borders added:
Her center star block is hand pieced (she is amazing at handwork), while I translated the original pattern into paper foundations and pieced mine that way.
Mom’s is made from scraps, aren’t the colors just so fun?
I am using primarily a palette of navy, aqua, gray and white with touches of the peach. I was lucky to get a piece of this peach crosshatch fabric (part of the Architextures collection) at my local shop and it is the perfect color. The other two prints you see in my block are from the Indian Summer fabric collection from Art Gallery (the online shop Stash Modern Fabrics has a fantastic selection of these as well as my other current favorite, Urban Mod).
Now to start the first border….

I love the palette of colors in your block. That peach crosshatch fabric is awesome!
LOVE the colors! It looks fabulous!! I can’t wait to see it when its done!
How do you translate a block into Paper foundation for piecing? There is a pattern I’ve wanted to make into a paper foundation pattern but I don’t know how to do it.
Both yours and your Mom’s are looking great!
I love them both. Such a talented family. Hugs
Loving the colors too! I can’t wait to see how this turns out.
Lovely centre block, keep going! Visiting from WIP Weds
