Quilting Class: hexagon fun

So I was just too pooped out last night to download any photos or write a post. I spent Memorial Day weekend with my kids in Michigan and did all the driving myself…but here I am, a bit late, but worth the wait!
Don’t forget to vote at the Blogger’s Quilt Festival. My Quilt is #41 in the wallhanging category!

The winner of the Notting Hill fat eighth bundle is…Amanda! at What the Bobbin. Thanks to all who left me comments and tips on fun  new things you are liking at the moment.

On Friday I taught my Jumbo Hexagon quilt class at my local quilt shop, Quilt Beginnings, and had a blast! there were three ladies….

here are GinnyLib, Terri and Kitty. It was so much fun to have such a small group and ladies who already quilted a fair bit. (see my hexi quilt in the background? thanks, Mom)
GinnyLib was making a small table topper, basically one huge grandmother’s flower garden block, with her hexagons.
Terri worked on a hexagon quilt that she already had started but was struggling with the set-in seams. She liked the method I taught her, so at least someone learned something! that feels good. She made a lot of progress during the class time.
Kitty was making a (huge!) bed quilt with hexagons out of fabrics with magnolia prints. Very pretty (and ambitious).

Teaching is so rewarding to me. Sometimes when I start a class I wonder if the ladies are thinking, “who is this youngster and what can she teach me?”, which makes me a bit nervous. But every single class I have taught over the past year has been utterly fantastic, with great feedback and positive energy all around.

I am planning to post a tutorial on piecing hexagons, so stay tuned!

Garden NewsFlash! the iris are here and I love them. took these pictures in my yard tonight to share…

I planted all of these last fall, so they are a surprise for me this year as they bloom. Beautiful.
