One of the things on my bucket list of life is to see the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. I decided to name my latest quilting pattern Aurora after the incredible beauty of the Northern Lights: all the stars, the glowing light and vast array of color.
Aurora is one of my new patterns for spring 2017 and the pdf is now available in my pattern shop (Here)! As you can see and may have noticed on the website, I have been working on some changes around Color Girl. Patterns are getting a new look, my logo has changed up, and...
All new! Links is my latest quilt pattern featured in Quilters Companion magazine. This fun and easy quilt is ideal for showcasing your favorite colors. Quilters Companion is not widely available outside of Australia, but you can get this issue digitally at Magzter.
One of the reasons I am proud to be a contributor to Quilters Companion is the high quality of projects in each issue. My Links quilt is a great beginner level quilt and quick to make, but there are also a great variety of projects at more advanced skill levels. This makes it a worthy look for...
Happy New Year! and Happy New Sewing! I have a fresh scrappy quilt pattern just right for something brand new in 2017. The bonus is, you can feel good about making Daisy because it is perfect for scraps and small cuts of fabric (10" squares, etc). If you have resolved to sew your stash this year, this is your quilt (-: (find it in my shop, Here)
Daisy was originally published in Quilters' Companion magazine last fall and I have seen some wonderful versions already pop up from that. I think this would be a fun pattern to experiment with different...
Last week I showed you the beginnings of this cute little quilt and now I have it finished! My first finished top of 2017.
I started with a layer cake (10" squares) of the Aubade Song to Dawn collection from Moda Fabrics. This is an entire collection of basic prints in only blue and white and gray. I wanted to try some very small curved orange peel shapes, keeping the center fabric in tact.
I decided for the start of this year to work on a series of small quilts. This is partly due to a larger project I am working...
I am starting a new series of quilts for patterns in 2017 and they will have lots of fun new ways to use my favorite curved piecing! This week I started something new and something I haven't done in a long time: a two color quilt.
I had a layer cake of this collection of all blues and gray/white prints (Moda Fabrics, 2016), so I thought, "why not just keep them together and go with a monochromatic scheme?". Blue and white is a perennial favorite and I figured it would challenge me a bit to keep my project to such...
So fun to add a new quilting pattern to my shop, right in time for New Year sewing...or Christmas sewing for those extra ambitious folks!
Spin was originally published in Quilts and More magazine last spring and I now have it ready for my readers here as an individual pattern. This pattern includes the fully illustrated cutting and piecing instructions for the quilt in three sizes: baby (or wall hanging), throw, and queen quilts. Buy the pattern, Here .
As always, I do all of my piecing with 50 wt. Aurifil thread and also recommend Hobbs batting. These wonderful companies provide me supplies,...
So happy to finally share my latest quilt design! I made this quilt almost a year ago and this month it is featured in Quilters' Companion magazine. Quilters' Companion is in Australia, so it's a bit tricky to find elsewhere. If you are interested in the pattern for this quilt, you can get a digital magazine on Magzter.

Sunday Best (*edited: the pattern is now available to download here on this site, called Daisy, get it Here) is my colorful version of the classic dresden plate. I started with fabric from the Zen Chic collection,...
I finished another quilt top! I am so enjoying the summer vacation and getting so much time to sew. I told you a little about the start of this quilt last week, and now it is all finished and ready for quilting. I do plan to write a pattern for this (just add it to my growing to-do list!). Find my latest quilting patterns, here.
When I set out to make a new quilt, sometimes I have a specific design in mind with drawings and everything all figured out. But I think my favorite quilts are the ones that evolve as...
Every once in a while (okay, really often), I kind of fall in love with a group of fabrics. When I saw a fat eighth bundle of Kate Spain's brand new fabric collection called Grand Canal (Moda, 2016), I went head over heels for the colors, the sweet simple prints, the whole thing.
Kate Spain has a way with color, and although the prints might be deemed very basic, that is what I like about them. The pretty colors and simple prints are very useable, whether for a quilt on their own or mixed with others in my stash.
One of my all time favorite quilting fabric collections is "For You" by designer Brigitte Heitland (Zen Chic) for Moda. These fabrics came out last summer, and I was lucky enough to get a layer cake (10" square precuts) of them right away, which I made a quilt with...I can't wait to show you that later this year...but kind of wished I had some more. Last weekend I managed to snag some pieces on sale while traveling.
You see, the colors and prints in this are so "me", I think, and so useful. They are bright without being crazy, just...
