New Quilt in Love Patchwork and Quilting!

I know I say this every time, but I SUPER happy to finally share this little quilt with you! Color Story is featured this month in Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine. This issue is on newsstands now in the U.K. and will be here in the U.S. in 3-4 weeks. Be sure and watch out for it...always a pretty publication. Color Story is a wall hanging size or baby quilt. I truly enjoyed making this one...from the design to the fabric and sewing. Fabrics are from one of my "collections" (bins of fabrics waiting for just the right project), including...

Vivid Grid Quilt in Quilts and More

So happy to share a new quilt! This is Vivid Grid, appearing in the brand new issue of Quilts and More magazine. Sometimes it seems like forever between the time I make a quilt for a magazine and when I finally get to show you. It can be so hard to wait! As you can see from the photos, I made this quilt last summer...and I am so excited about it. It is a fabulous quilt for scraps, so the timing of the release is perfect for all of those determined to sew scraps and stash this New Year. My version...

Quilters’ Companion: Scrappy Dresden Quilt

So happy to finally share my latest quilt design! I made this quilt almost a year ago and this month it is featured in Quilters' Companion magazine. Quilters' Companion is in Australia, so it's a bit tricky to find elsewhere. If you are interested in the pattern for this quilt, you can get a digital  magazine on Magzter. Pattern also available to download: click here Sunday Best (*edited: the pattern is now available to download here on this site, called Daisy, get it Here) is my colorful version of the classic dresden plate. I started with fabric from the Zen Chic collection,...

Show and Tell: Quilts in Progress

It has been quite a whirlwind for me the last few weeks since classes started for the semester! I haven't had much time for anything other than homework, but happily my mom came to visit me and help out for a few weeks and we have squeezed a bit of time in for sewing at last. She brought the blocks for this amazing quilt with her and sewed up the top...it is made with my quilt pattern, Archer, and I love it! It looks so different from the pattern sample...great how it shows the versatility of the pattern to use...

Quilting in Progress: Spinning!

I have said before that I am not good at the "quilting" part of quilting. I am not at all confident at free-motion and usually limit myself to straight lines or using the decorative stitches on my machine if I'm feeling fancy. Often, I forget this when I set out to quilt a quilt. I get really excited and over ambitious and bite off more than I can chew. (I have some half-quilted projects to prove it...) Well, with my new Hula Girl Quilt, I did that again (the getting excited and over-ambitious), but....I am totally thrilled! I mentioned last...

Hula Girl Quilt Pattern Now on Sale

Happy Sunday! A fun announcement here at Color Girl: a new pattern is now available. This is my modern ring quilt called "Hula Girl". You can find it in my shop or on Craftsy. The pattern includes very detailed instructions and clear diagrams to get you started on paper piecing if you have never tried it. I also have a couple of tutorials in photos, Here. The quilt shown on the pattern finishes at 44" x 53", so it is perfect for a baby or child, a snuggle or a wallhanging. My current version has only five rings, so it...

Quilt in Progress: Basting

So, I finished my little Hula Girl quilt top for the Michael Miller Fabrics challenge for Sewtopia. (Read about how I got started on this Here). Usually fall is my favorite time to take pictures of quilts because the colors outside are so pretty, but our weather has been nothing but wet for two whole weeks! So I am giving you a bit of a peek at this as I was basting it. I really want to quilt it with spiraling circles from the center of each ring. I love how that looks but never tried it. I think this...
