Quilts: What’s New and Next

Although I haven't quite caught up on all my quilts in progress (that will probably never happen!), I have been having a bit of fun recently with color. Beth, the owner of Stash Fabrics, asked some quilters to create their own bundle of kona cotton solids. Naturally, I was happy to play around with the colors (there are over 300! and Stash carries them all) and came up with this pretty color wheel of 15. There is a neat feature on the Stash fabrics website, the "design wall", which allows you to paste fabrics you like and then see how...

Free Color Girl Pattern to Download

I have something exciting to share with you: a new pattern, written and designed by me and now available to you for free! I created this quilt for Hoffman Fabrics to showcase their fabric collection called Talia. Talia comes in three color ways and you can see the quilt in all three color collections and download the pattern, Here. I think this design has lots of potential for varying looks by switching up the values and color placement, or making it more scrappy (that's the route I took!) The quilt design was created digitally, but since I also had to write...

Quilts: What’s New and Next

It's a new week and a new month! Yesterday I told you about my "square" blocks for this month's quilters' book club, and the posts on my next four blocks are coming up this week. Today, I want to share some things happening here as well as what you might like from my sponsor, Canton Village Quilt Works. What's New? Visit the Bloggers' Quilt Festival for some beautiful quilt inspiration. Last week I posted about my entry, the Polka Dot Bikini Quilt. I also visited the other category pages on the festival website and saw so many wonderful quilts! Mine is in the...

For the Love of Fabric: Batik

Jackie at Canton Village Quilts Works is having a sale on her great selection of batik fabrics this weekend! Check out the batik page Here. That got me thinking. Batiks are so unique in quilting, aren't they? it seem that people either love them and use them almost exclusively, or really not at all. I think maybe their potential is under-appreciated in all styles of quilting: Color, Texture, Pattern...Beautiful!     There is no doubt that batiks look great together! I made this bargello quilt about seven years ago. I wanted both the three dimensional look of the bargello design as well as...

A Finished “Bikini” and Polka Dot Giveaway

I am so thrilled that my mom came to town to visit and we are going to Camp Stitchalot next week in Michigan! She also has her finished Polka Dot Bikini Quilt to show. I have mentioned this quilt before during our Quilt Along. She made a variation on the pattern by splitting the backgrounds into black and white. It creates such a neat, three dimensional design. The fabrics are all from her stash, she collects black and white prints and loves to pair them with bright colors. The binding is a funky print by Lakehouse fabrics with cupcakes printed on...

Sponsor Giveaway: Canton Village Quilt Works

Today I am so happy to have a giveaway from my sponsor, Jackie, of Canton Village Quilt Works! She is both a regular sponsor of my blog and also of the Polka Dot Bikini Quilt Along, so she is a great friend here at Fabrics & Flowers. Jackie has been a quilt shop owner for four years and specializes in fabrics you won't find in other online fabric shops, like the Australian aboriginal prints and all things Kaffe Fassett (love those Spots!). She has recently remodeled her website and it looks beautiful: so bright and colorful, and easy to navigate. Canton Village is a full service shop, with classes (you-tube), patterns, notions and kits in addition to...
