Welcome to my stop on the Stash Fabrics Kona cottons quilt blog tour! Beth at Stash organized a group of quilters to pick out their favorite bundle of colors from her stock of Kona solids, then let us dream up a sewing project with them. Beth carries the entire collection of Kona solids, over 300 different colors!
It seemed like a no-brainer to make my pretty bundle into a Polka Dot Bikini quilt, and with that in mind, I chose a variety of bright colors, including at least one light and one dark of each. Of course, once I got...
I mentioned last week that I am using my Kona solids bundle from Stash Fabrics to make a small version of my Polka Dot Bikini Quilt. This project has pretty much taken all my sewing time this week, and I am really loving how it is coming along. I initially planned to make it with only the solid fabrics, but just couldn't do it! I had to add some bright prints...and of course the polka dots made sense. I am trying to create a good mix and balance between the dot fabrics and the solids, but keep the overall...
I did it! I finally finished my second Polka Dot Bikini Quilt.
I started this quilt back in January to work along with the Bikini Quilt-along I hosted here on the blog. It has been one I worked on off-and-on since then, often getting set aside for other projects. This month I have been making a big effort to finish up some works-in-progress and this quilt was top of my list. It's funny, as I was making this it seemed like such a big project: lots of piecing (curves take extra time) and lots of quilting (for me, anyway). Then...
I am so thrilled that my mom came to town to visit and we are going to Camp Stitchalot next week in Michigan! She also has her finished Polka Dot Bikini Quilt to show. I have mentioned this quilt before during our Quilt Along. She made a variation on the pattern by splitting the backgrounds into black and white. It creates such a neat, three dimensional design.
The fabrics are all from her stash, she collects black and white prints and loves to pair them with bright colors. The binding is a funky print by Lakehouse fabrics with cupcakes printed on...
Have you ever made a quilt and then just couldn't decide how to quilt it? I have been thinking about what to do with this one for a couple of weeks, not sure how to go. You see, I really love this quilt, and I didn't want to mess it up.
In the end, I just had to go for it (partly because I needed to free up my basting pins for another project, but nonetheless…)
This project is my second version of the "Polka Dot Bikini" pattern. Check out the QAL posts over the past couple of months HERE. I...
Welcome to the last check in day of the Polka Dot Bikini Quilt-Along! Of course, I am so happy to finally show you my finished top. I show you some little peeks along the way, but wanted the final design to be surprise. What do you think?
My wonderful sponsor, Canton Village Quilt Works is offering a $25 gift certificate to one reader today. Keep reading for details….
Is anyone else finished with their top? I would love to see what you are creating. Be sure and use #bikiniquilt on instagram or add to the Color Girl Quilts flickr group.
I have it...
Happy Bikini Day! It also happens to be really sunny outside and almost Friday, so it's a good day!
Today is the last check in for the Bikini Quilt Along, do you have all of your blocks sewn up? During the next two weeks we should be sewing the blocks together to make the finished top. I am so excited! Just wanted to give you a bit of a peek at mine so far, here are some blocks laid out…
I decided on this layout, turning every other block so that the patchwork squares alternate with solid blue fabrics. Some of...
For our Polka Dot Bikini quilt along schedule, you should have four more border blocks and the last of the center blocks sewn up. How did you do?
Today I want to share some great inspiration: the finished Bikini top made by my mom, Marian. I showed you this as a work in progress back at the start of the quilt-along. Didn't this turn out stunning?
Marian made her blocks by piecing the setting arcs with half black and half white, this creates the neat pinwheel where the blocks come together.
I like how this makes the individual blocks disappear and...
Ok. I know I am a day late. I am also a few pounds lighter. I was completely wiped out of commission yesterday by a stomach bug. I will spare you the gory details and just say, better late than never!
Today's Bikini Quilt Along check in is sponsored by our friend, Brenda, at Pink Castle Fabrics. More on that in a minute…how about the quilts?
if you still need the pattern, you can purchase it Here.
I rearranged some of my border blocks so all the patchwork squares are in the center…I think it looks really cool, what do you...
Happy Thursday! hard to believe it has been two weeks since the last Quilt Along Post, but here we are. Did you start on your border blocks?
If you are just joining, see the QAL page Here. It's not too late to start your own Polka Dot Bikini Quilt.
Our goal for today was to have the four corner blocks done and four of the border blocks.
Here are some of my border blocks:
You can see more of my "process" photos on my Instagram feed, too. I wanted to link to the Instagram #bikiniquilt group, too, but I cannot figure out how...
