Quilt in Progress: a new Eclipse

I am starting a new, smaller version of my Eclipse quilt pattern. This is going to be part of my demonstration pieces for a class I am teaching this weekend. I think this is going to be such a fun quilt...I love these bright colors and modern prints! I am thinking about mixing up the prints in the circles, rather than placing the four alike ones together to form a complete circle. What do you think? I am also trying it out with navy blue in place of the yellow. I have several blocks sewn, ready to add the stars. I...

Kona Solids: Polka Dot Bikini Quilt

Welcome to my stop on the Stash Fabrics Kona cottons quilt blog tour! Beth at Stash organized a group of quilters to pick out their favorite bundle of colors from her stock of Kona solids, then let us dream up a sewing project with them. Beth carries the entire collection of Kona solids, over 300 different colors! It seemed like a no-brainer to make my pretty bundle into a Polka Dot Bikini quilt, and with that in mind, I chose a variety of bright colors, including at least one light and one dark of each. Of course, once I got...

Sew a Whimsy Garden Quilt! Pattern Available

So happy to have the Whimsy Garden quilt pattern now available in my pattern shop! I sewed this quilt last fall for a feature in Quilters' Companion, where it was published in May. Now you all have the chance to make this unique quilt. Whimsy Garden is a great pattern to start with if you are new to sewing curves. The blocks are gently curved and come together quite easily. The pattern provides full instructions for the curved piecing and completing the appliqué circles even if you have never done appliqué before, or tend to avoid it (that's me! not usually...

Finally Finished: Mini Eclipse Quilt

The last couple weeks, I have written about working on this little quilt as my "Quilt in Progress", so I am happy to finally have it finished! This is a miniature (about 30" square) of my original Eclipse Quilt (pattern available Here or on my Craftsy Shop) that was featured in Quilt Now magazine back in December. Honestly, I have so many quilts in progress, and a million more inside my head and sketch book, I don't know what possessed me to re-make this quilt other than that I really love the design. It is a unique way to use...

New! Whimsy Garden Quilt

I love this quilt! (I hope it's okay to say that about my own creation). I made this one last fall and it is so exciting to finally share the finished quilt, published this month in Australian Quilters' Companion. The Whimsy Garden quilt is smallish, great for a baby or child, wallhanging or sofa lap quilt. I feel like the design is so "me", with curved piecing (I love those pod shapes!) and lots of bright colors and prints. The circles are appliquéd, but really easy! See my tutorial on circle appliqué, Here. It is always fun to see my quilts...

New Quilt Pattern: Eclipse

Hooray! the Eclipse quilt pattern is finally available. Please visit my pattern shop here on this site, or Craftsy to purchase. I am extra excited about sharing this quilt...it is probably my favorite of at least the past year. I usually have a hard time choosing favorites among my quilts, but I just love how this quilt turned out... the combination of stars and curves, the colors and fabrics, and the amazing quilting by Judi Madsen. The pattern includes full size templates for cutting the curved shapes, they are all pieced with no appliqué and no foundation/paper piecing. You can...

Mini Quilt Table Topper

I have spent the last month or so mostly working on finishing Quilts in Progress and writing, but I interrupted myself to whip up this mini Eclipse quilt! This project served lots of purposes, but mostly I wanted to test out the templates for the Eclipse pattern to make sure they transferred to the published pattern accurately. The pattern is all ready to go, but I was kind of dumb and didn't take many photos before I sent the quilt to England for photography by Quilt Now. Now I am anxiously (more every day!) waiting for it to return....

Aviatrix Quilt: the Center Star

I did it! I finally finished my center star for the Aviatrix medallion quilt. I have to say I really love it, is it okay to say that about your own quilt? I really love making medallion quilts (so far I've done the Marcelle Medallion and Midnight at the Oasis). This pattern is called Aviatrix Medallion and was created by Elizabeth Hartman. (you can buy the pattern here and see how the original looks). Now, I do  have some explaining to do because if you are familiar with the pattern, you know mine looks different. While I love the original quilt, I...

December Book Club: Strip Blocks

It's December, and that means time for the Quilters' Book Club. Once again, I chose four blocks from the "100 Modern Quilt Blocks, Tula Pink's City Sampler" book. This month I decided on the theme of Strips and made blocks 58, 63, 64, and 66. When I laid the four out, I realized how cute they look together when you alternate the direction of the stripes in every other block. It would be fun to make a whole sampler quilt with basic blocks like this. These blocks are the simplest I have made so far, and I actually worked on...
