Capsules and Curves Make Graphic Quilts

Fusions Quilt by Sharon McConnell with Art Gallery Fabrics capsules take shape fabrics

I know I say this a lot, but I totally loved making this quilt! The fabric, the sewing, the quilting, did I mention the fabric? Introducing the Capsules “Take Shape” fabrics from Art Gallery Fabrics.

A couple months ago, Mathew (@misterdomestic) asked if I would like to participate in his Sewing Party to show new collections from Art Gallery Fabrics. Of course, I was happy to design something with these fabulous fabrics! For two weeks, Mathew has organized makers to inspire you with fabrics from the Capsules and the Fusions collections (see more here).

All of the projects will be featured on instagram using tag #misterdomesticssewingparty. Be sure and follow along there, Facebook, and all the participating blogs.

Okay! About my Take Shape quilt. These fabrics jumped right out to me and I knew I wanted to create a fairly simple but super graphic patchwork design. Of course, I am always drawn to curves, so that is where I went.

These circle blocks are made up of basic drunkard’s path blocks  (quarter circles). They are quick to sew and I had fun with rearranging the units in a variety of layouts…that is what makes circles so fun: they are super versatile!

As usual, I loved working with Art Galley Fabrics because they are so soft and lay so nicely when pieced and pressed. I even quilted this one myself! I love the look of the simple straight line grid of quilting over the entire surface. I do all my piecing with Aurifil 50 wt thread and finished the quilt with Hobbs batting.

If you haven’t tried curves yet, you gotta do it! Check out my patterns for curved piecing. My next newsletter is all about curves and includes a tutorial to make a quilt using the drunkard’s path block, so be sure and sign up for my list (see bottom of post) (-:

Follow along for the rest of the #misterdomesticssewingparty with these great makers! (and if you don’t already, follow @misterdomestic on IG, he makes amazing stuff).

I love the quilts you make with curves, but I am cautious about trying them myself. I will look forward to your next newsletter. I just got my edition of Love Patchwork & Quilting with your Print Pop Curves pattern. I love this quilt, so maybe I will give it a try!

It sure is striking!! I love how the circles play with the fabrics: they work together so well! and the black and white striped binding is the perfect finish to the quilt! Hugs, H

Seeing your posts always makes the day brighter! This quilt in particular is a stunner…. love the simplicity in the design (although I’m aware arranging them was probably a challenge!) That fabric is so perfect for that particular quilt. I always think “I must try that!” and this one has to happen. Thank you so much for the inspiration you give to so many of us💕
