Happy New Year! and Happy New Sewing! I have a fresh scrappy quilt pattern just right for something brand new in 2017. The bonus is, you can feel good about making Daisy because it is perfect for scraps and small cuts of fabric (10″ squares, etc). If you have resolved to sew your stash this year, this is your quilt (-: (find it in my shop, Here)
Daisy was originally published in Quilters’ Companion magazine last fall and I have seen some wonderful versions already pop up from that. I think this would be a fun pattern to experiment with different looks…maybe batiks or all solids, maybe limit each dresden block to just one color or make them like a color wheel with rainbow colors.
For my sample, I used a lot of prints from the Zen Chic collection “For You” (Moda Fabrics, 2015), plus lots of bright scraps from my stash. I also pieced it all with Aurifil 50 wt. thread in my favorite creamy white and finished it with Hobbs batting. The beautiful quilting was done for me by Teresa Silva (@quiltingismybliss).
The Daisy quilt pattern includes three sizes: baby, throw, and queen and a template for making the dresden blocks (the wedge shapes). If you have one, you can also use the EZ Dresden tool from EZ quilting. It is an acrylic ruler that makes rotary cutting the pieces quick. They are available at craft and fabric stores.
I have loved this quilt since I sewed the first block, and I hope you will make one! I would so enjoy seeing all the different ideas you come up with for this design.
