Finally Finished Quilt: Trillium

In my quest for finishing, I am super excited to show you my latest quilt, Trillium! I pieced the top for this one during the winter but just got it quilted (by Darby of Quilted Squid) and finished the hand-stitched binding on vacation last week. (find my binding tutorial Here, I do it both ways: machine or by hand, depending on the quilt and my mood)

The fabrics featured in this quilt are all from Art Gallery Fabrics, primarily the Avante Garde collection by Katarina Roccella. I also used Hobbs batting and Aurifil thread for piecing…my favorites!

The piecing for this quilt is done by piecing hexagons, and then sewing them together in rows, but leaving a 1/4″ unsewn at each end of the seam….I call it a zig-zag seam when you sew the rows together because you stitch back and forth, setting in each of the hexagons as you go. It takes a bit of time to do it this way, but I love how it turns out!

My family had a wonderful island vacation last week, so it was perfect for taking quilt photos! The fabrics in this quilt are some of my favorite to come along this year, I love the bright hot colors mixed with black and white. The quilt fits in well with the summery beach temperatures and colors next to the black lava rock.

I hope your summer is shaping up beautifully, too!
