Quilt in Progress, Dreaming of the Coastline

Have you seen the new fabric collection, Coastline, in stores yet? These pretty prints were designed by my friend, Sharon Holland, for Art Gallery Fabrics, and they are a perfect antidote to the current cold, grayness we have outside here in Ohio. The coastal vibe lends a relaxed feel to the prints, but the colors and style are anything but dull. I love the combination of turquoise, navy, salmon and gray. I have a small sampling of the collection, so I am mixing them with fabrics from Sharon's previous (and so beautiful) collections, Sketchbook and Gossamer. The colors and style...

New, Free Quilt Pattern Now Available

I have a pretty new pattern now available to download, courtesy of Hoffman Fabrics. Click Here to visit their site and get the pdf pattern. I designed this quilt last fall to showcase the Hoffman Fabrics collection called, "Simply Eclectic". It is a pretty range of prints in florals and geometrics...great basics...in Navy, Gray, Terra Cotta, Green, and Aqua. The photo above was taken at International Quilt Market in Houston last November. The quilt was displayed in the Hoffman booth there to help showcase the fabrics. For this version, and what you see on the pattern cover (the digital rendering) I...

AvantGarde Fabrics: Simply Gorgeous!

It is my turn to show off Katarina Roccella's latest fabric collection for Art Gallery Fabrics and I am so excited to share my quilt! I have loved every collection Katarina has designed, but I really think AvantGarde is my favorite yet. The colors are absolutely delightful: bright and deep jewel tones mixed with black and white. The prints and colors also mix well with her previous collections, especially Imprint (2015) and Indelible (2014). For my project with the fabric, I wanted to play off the geometric shapes and use large pieces to really show off the prints. I decided...

Ring Around Quilt, the Pattern is Here!

One of my favorite quilts from the past year, Ring Around, is now available as an individual pattern! Click here to visit my quilt pattern shop to order the pdf download now. Ring Around was originally published in Quilters' Companion magazine in Australia, so for those who couldn't get hold of that magazine, you can now make the Ring Around quilt, too. This is a new variation on my favorite ring style quilt, with a slightly more square-ish curve...it's just as easy to piece as your usual curves, but really creates a unique and dynamic finished design. If you like...

Leaders and Enders Quilts

I was first introduced to the concept of a "leaders and enders" project by Brenda (of Pink Castle Fabrics), at one the Camp Stitchalot retreats I attended with her. Prior to that, when I was piecing, I would use a small scrap of fabric to stitch into at the end of a seam or chain of pieces so that I could snip of my pieces off without having to pull out the thread. This is a useful trick for conserving thread and avoiding long strands of thread at the beginnings and ends of your sewing. With the leaders and enders concept,...

For the Love of Fabric: “For You”

One of my all time favorite quilting fabric collections is "For You" by designer Brigitte Heitland (Zen Chic) for Moda. These fabrics came out last summer, and I was lucky enough to get a layer cake (10" square precuts) of them right away, which I made a quilt with...I can't wait to show you that later this year...but kind of wished I had some more. Last weekend I managed to snag some pieces on sale while traveling. You see, the colors and prints in this are so "me", I think, and so useful. They are bright without being crazy, just...

Play Time Quilt Finished!

Last week I showed you this quilt in progress....and I am so happy to have it finished already. I made this quilt to test out the Tri-Rec tool ruler by EZ quilting. The pattern will be included when you purchase the tool, so look for the new packaging including this quilt later in 2016.  EZ quilting tools are available at craft stores (like Joann here in the US) or quilting stores. The quilt is a throw or child size, so it is quick to sew up. I like how the Tri Rec tool can be used to cut different size...
