…And our second block of April for the Super Simple Sampler. This month the theme is nine-patch, so each block contains some form of this classic quilting design. Here is how to make block #30.

cutting

from each of two prints in dark blue: cut (2) 2  1/2″ squares; (2) 1  1/2″ squares

from yellow print: cut (2) 2 1/2″ squares

from pink print: cut (2) 2 1/2″ squares

Sewing (1/4″ seam, press after each seam)

1. arrange the cut pieces as shown above. Sew the blue 1  1/2″ squares together in pairs. Press.

2. sew one dark blue 2  1/2″ square of each print to a yellow 2 1/2″ square. Press toward the yellow.

3. sew the two blue square units (from step 1) together to form a four-patch. Press.

4. sew a second dark blue square to the opposite side of each yellow square. Press toward the blue. Ensure that the second blue square is not the same as the first blue square (see layout below).

5. Sew the pink 2 1/2″ square to opposite sides of the blue four-patch unit. Ensure that the four patch is oriented to keep the blue prints in proper placement, forming diagonal with the matching dark blue 2 1/2″ squares in the corners of the block. Press toward the pink.

6. sew the three rows together to form the completed block. Press well.
