Quilt Now issue 9 Featuring Gossamer

Issue 9 of Quilt Now has landed in the United States! So excited to share this issue with you...including my Gossamer Quilt pattern (on the cover!) I was utterly shocked when Katy emailed to tell me my quilt was going to be on the cover. I was so excited of course, but it's also such a compliment, because this magazine has so many great quilt patterns. Here are a few of my favorites,   The Churn Dash is a popular favorite among the classic quilting blocks. This pattern includes instructions for a full size quilt and a cute little cushion cover....

New Fabric = New Quilt in Progress

A couple of weeks ago Pat Bravo posted on Instagram that she was looking for sewers to create with her new fabric collection, Etno (for Art Gallery Fabrics), and be part of a blog tour to show off the possibilities for the prints. Of course, there were a ton of responses, I didn't think I had a chance...but I was thrilled when I got an email from Pat that I was selected! Hooray for new fabric, right?! So, I wanted to write a quick "W.i.P" Wednesday post today and share a bit about what I have planned for these. But first...the...

Mini Quilt Table Topper

I have spent the last month or so mostly working on finishing Quilts in Progress and writing, but I interrupted myself to whip up this mini Eclipse quilt! This project served lots of purposes, but mostly I wanted to test out the templates for the Eclipse pattern to make sure they transferred to the published pattern accurately. The pattern is all ready to go, but I was kind of dumb and didn't take many photos before I sent the quilt to England for photography by Quilt Now. Now I am anxiously (more every day!) waiting for it to return....

Quilting Pattern Updates

Thank you all for the complimentary comments on my finished Gossamer quilt! I hope you are feeling as inspired as I am by the beautiful spring colors and welcome appearance of the sunshine. If you have purchased a pdf pattern from my shop on Craftsy (or here on my site), you may have received notification that I have updated my pattern files. Don't worry if you have already downloaded and printed your patterns, or even started sewing. There have been no changes to the patterns themselves as far as measurements or instructions. The pattern updates include user goodies like live links...

Finished Quilt! Gossamer Beauty

I have a finished quilt to share! Miracle, huh? I am really proud of this quilt, the beauty of the colors and prints and the fun patchwork design. I made the Gossamer quilt in January for Quilt Now magazine and it appears in the newest issue going to subscribers now in the UK and hopefully coming to us the U.S. pretty soon. I designed the quilt last winter and made another version of it, but I never showed it in hopes I could have the design published. When I saw Sharon Holland's fabric collection, Gossamer, preview last fall on the...

For the Love of Fabric: Sun Prints 2015

It will be no surprise to anyone familiar with this blog that I waited with great anticipation for the new 2015 Sun Prints from Alison Glass (Andover Fabrics). Alison Glass is among the very best in the fabric design world when it comes to choosing colors: bright and saturated, but also versatile and modern. I have lots of her previous Sun Prints collection in my stash (from 2013) and I find myself using them in all my quilting projects. Since my taste in quilting and patchwork tends to lean toward the scrappy side, my fabric taste is usually pretty basic....

Free Color Girl Pattern to Download

I have something exciting to share with you: a new pattern, written and designed by me and now available to you for free! I created this quilt for Hoffman Fabrics to showcase their fabric collection called Talia. Talia comes in three color ways and you can see the quilt in all three color collections and download the pattern, Here. I think this design has lots of potential for varying looks by switching up the values and color placement, or making it more scrappy (that's the route I took!) The quilt design was created digitally, but since I also had to write...

Simple Quilt Sampler Block #28

Our last block for March in the Super Simple Sampler quilt series! This week we have made four quilt blocks with the theme "four-patch" and incorporating that most basic classic quilting patchwork unit. Here is how to make this 6 1/2" sampler block. Cutting from each of eight fabrics for the four-patches: cut (2) 1 1/2" squares from dark yellow print: cut (5) 2 1/2" squares   Sewing: 1/4" seam, right sides facing, press after each seam 1. Arrange the 1 1/2" squares in groups of four, each group consisting of two pairs of matching squares as shown above. Sew the squares together to form the...
