It is the middle of the week, time to see what we are working on!
Starting on the non-quilting front for me: I have become a soccer mom. I spend two nights a week at soccer practice and last weekend was devoted to a tournament. This has been a learning experience, good and bad, for both my son and me. Selfishly, I am sad to miss evening time at home (soccer nights=rush dinner, rush bath, staying up too late), but it is really fun to watch him play and see his bright little pink face come off the field looking exhilarated and his little spiky hair all sweaty (I don’t know how they do it: it’s been around 90 degrees, and ungodly humid).
I see more hand sewing in my future: soccer time is great time for pinning curves, hand stitching binding (when it’s cooler, that is), drawing pattern illustrations…all things I can do away from home between games and during practice.
When I can get to my sewing machine, I have been working on lots of projects! I am really excited to have a few I’m getting ready for magazine publications (keeping the secret kills me!), but also some of my unfinished objects mixed in. I am working on blocks of my Rocky Road Star (above). You can see my original post (and tutorial) about this block Here, and download the paper-piecing templates Here.
I am loving the cheerful bright colored scraps I chose for the squares. These are also the perfect size to use one of those mini charm packs from Moda Fabrics (2 1/2″ squares). My favorite block so far is the one with the big gray polka dot fabric for the star points. I really want to turn this into a Finished Top…then I will start what I have planned for the bunch I showed you last week!
And just for a little peak, because these are so pretty: some fabrics I am pulling together for a new pattern I’m doing for a magazine! This one really speaks to me… bright color, favorite prints from my stash, and fun piecing. Stay tuned!
