I love visiting Utah.My boys get to go skiing, which they love.It is beautiful: snowy mountains, spring trees in bloom in the valley (it still looks like the dead of winter back home)My family is here: I spent the weekend on a mini sewing "retreat" with my mom and sister,I got to sew on that cute little white featherweight there in the front! My brothers came to town to see me, too. I am so blessed to have great relationships with my siblings. My younger brother brings his dog, sweet Dusty,Dusty is a dog who quilts, just like my Cleo at...
Every once in a while (okay, really often) a fabric design just grabs me. Two of my past favorites include Terrain, by Kate Spain and Reunion, by Sweetwater (both Moda, roughly two years ago). I have a hoard of both that I may never use, but just look at. (I hope I'm not the only person who does that)Recently I have discovered a really fabulous collection, Garden Party Tango (from Windham Fabrics). Here are a few of the prints, but the collections also includes some really fun, colorful florals, too.I chose the prints above because I think they look...
Just dropping in to announce a winner for the Bikini Quilt Along giveaway last week, and it is Kris, of Sew Sunshine fame. She will be treated to a $25 gift certificate at Pink Castle Fabrics.Be sure and check out her version of the Polka Dot Bikini quilt, see it on flickr by Clicking Here. I love it! As you can see, she is quite an over-achiever and has the top already finished. Those of you making one, I would really like to see your quilts...I am the other winner today! I made this tote (yes, I made something other...
I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I was scheduled to teach a class on the Marcelle Medallion at my local quilt shop. I didn't want to make another full size quilt, so I decided to make it in miniature for my class demonstrations.I have made the center star and sawtooth border…all in half the scale of the original. My center star is 8" and those little triangles in the first border are 3/4". How about some cuteness? For fabrics, I used charm squares of 'Happy Tones' prints.at this point, my mini is at 11 1/2" and next...
Ok. I know I am a day late. I am also a few pounds lighter. I was completely wiped out of commission yesterday by a stomach bug. I will spare you the gory details and just say, better late than never!
Today's Bikini Quilt Along check in is sponsored by our friend, Brenda, at Pink Castle Fabrics. More on that in a minute…how about the quilts?
if you still need the pattern, you can purchase it Here.
I rearranged some of my border blocks so all the patchwork squares are in the center…I think it looks really cool, what do you...
Tonight is a bit of show and tell with a tutorial, on a quilt I made based on the pattern "Pivot" from our current
Book Club book, Scrap Republic. Now before you get too impressed, I did not just whip this up. I made this quilt about two years ago, I just wanted to share it now since I talked about the book on a couple of weeks ago on This Post.
I also wanted to do a quick how-to on those circles. They are pretty small, so I didn't want to piece them, but I did want them to have a...

At the beginning of 2013, I set out to make a series of quilts that are friendly to beginner quilters by requiring only basic piecing and cutting skills as well as having simple fabric requirements. One of those designs is "Jewel Box", back in my pattern shop, Color Girl Quilts, after a makeover that includes size options and improved graphic design.
The "Jewel Box" pattern comes with fabric requirements and instructions for a throw/baby size, which can be made with one layer cake plus a few fat quarters of solids. There is also a twin size option and both would...
Happy Thursday! hard to believe it has been two weeks since the last Quilt Along Post, but here we are. Did you start on your border blocks?
If you are just joining, see the QAL page Here. It's not too late to start your own Polka Dot Bikini Quilt.
Our goal for today was to have the four corner blocks done and four of the border blocks.
Here are some of my border blocks:
You can see more of my "process" photos on my Instagram feed, too. I wanted to link to the Instagram #bikiniquilt group, too, but I cannot figure out how...
I enjoyed each comment on my post last week about my sponsor, Canton Village Quilt Works, and I am so happy to announce that Cindy is the winner.
It sounds like others appreciate the same things that I do about Jackie's blog and shop: she carries fabrics that few do (Kaffe, Aboriginals, and HUGE selection of kona solids). Someone mentioned that their favorite is the Steam Punk pattern by Jen Kingwell. That pattern has been on my to-do list, too.
Maybe I should move it up a notch!
And, an accomplishment?
Now, this isn't anything big, but I am pretty proud to report that...
