and Flowers

This week I have been working on my second monthly compass block.I have one fourth of it completed:I started this as an interval project last month, making my first block when I was in limbo between projects and deciding what to start next. I made progress on the rest of this block today and will share when it is completed. I am loving the fabrics and colors (did you notice that gold piece has chicken wire?)And, Flowers. My garden has felt neglected since I started blogging, the weather got hot, and I turned my focus to quilts. To pay...

(We also have a toad, gender unknown)When my boys got old enough to move out of their cribs into big boy beds, they each got a quilt.Hudson's is the blue and yellow bento box on my sidebar that links to my tutorial page. He chose a farmyard print for the backing. He was obsessed with farms when he was around 2.this is Coulson's, which I finished last spring. He chose a train print for the backing. When he...

Playing a bit…

As you can see, I have been experimenting with blog designs. I have often wondered (being of lesser technical intelligence than most) how people make their blogs look so cute. I have been surfing around and found some really fun sites for graphics and stuff. My garden needed some attention. Since beginning this blog, I have been so fired up about quilting, I haven't been in the mood to dig, but I did some planting today. Since I don't have any new quilting pictures, I want to show some lovely pictures of my other hobby, my flowers...Cleo spends a lot...

Finished Quilts, Paper Piecing

a finish, ahoy!

Well, Almost a finish. My three-year-old wants to be a pirate when he grows up. He runs around saying things like, "come on, you slugs!" to his friends, and "arrrgh, you scurvy dog" to me. He has a plastic sword that goes everywhere with him (including bed). So we are all starting to get into the pirate talk thing, thus, you are getting an Ahoy! as I share my newly quilted NY beauty. these blocks take a REALLY long time to make but they are so worth it! I really like these teeny flying geese, they are each about an inch. it...

Bikini Bottoms

So, according to my lovely (kooky) sister, my pickle blocks look like bikini bottoms.I think the name has stuck. So, today I am making more bikini bottoms and here's what I have so far:I went with the unanimous opinion that the varied solid colors were good. The thing is, I cannot decide how I like the intersection of the blocks the best, so I am taking an opinion poll.Leave me a comment with your vote.Option 1: squares in the corners, creating a four-patch where they meetOption 2: triangles on the corners, creating an hourglass where they meetOption 3: trim the colored...

Show and Tell

Last weekend when I took my machine to Quilt Beginnings for repair, again, I remembered to take some pictures of my quilts on display! The one above is from the book "scrap republic" by Emily Cier, which is a great book. This quilt is called "Pivot", the version made with yardage. The cool thing about this book is that Emily gives instructions for making the projects with scraps and also with yardage and the results are completely different! I made this with a couple of fat quarter bundles of a recent line by Malka Dubrowsky. (my friend, Cathy, who...
